Daft Xbox Question...

Daft question from a PC user...
A mate has just got elite for the Xbone...
Can he get in the same instance as me (PC User)
Can I send him a Friend request?
Can we wing up?

Probably obvious stuff...but no experience of consoles...

Not at the moment, even though we share the same galaxy, pc and xbox players are always in separate instances. Maybe in the future.

Heavily paraphrasing here but I've seen FD state here & there that they do ideally want to make crossplay a reality, at some point in the future.

The dependencies aren't all going to be in their control though. It's probably going to be a long way off but hopefully will one day become a reality.

I hope that any modding from the PC end doe'snt cross over and affect us XB1 players if and when cross platform comes into being. We do pay a subscription after all.

ED isn't open to the modding community. Probably won't be for the forseeable future... this isn't ARMA 3, Fallout or Skyrim you know :)

Game modding is usually done on open source games... which is welcomed and encouraged by the likes of Bethesda who thrive on and support their modding community. Hence why modding support for Fallout 4 on the Xbox was announced at last years E3.

I've been messing around with the Fallout creation kit...trying to get back into modding, which I haven't done for an age. I'll be doing Fallout and Skyrim mods when the updated Skyrim comes out for the Xbox later this month... can't wait.

It'll be nice officially modding an Xbox version of Skyrim... since I had my gamerscore and achievements removed from my GT by Micro$oft after (unofficially) modding my Skyrim on the 360 :)

Yup.

I asked Frontier's Gary Richards about cross-network play in a previous Xbox update thread that he was being active in at the time:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=243066&page=6&p=3773108&viewfull=1#post3773108

Gary, any chance of Frontier adding cross-network play between Xbox One and PC, given that it is now officially supported by Microsoft?

This support isn't simply for Xbox One and Windows 10 users to play together via Xbox Live - it's full support for *cross-network* play between people on Xbox One with Xbox Live, people on Windows ** PCs with Steam or other networks, and even other consoles...

(see http://news.xbox.com/2016/03/14/letter-chris-charla-idxbox-updates-gdc/ and http://www.rocketleaguegame.com/news/2016/03/xbox-one-cross-network-play/ )

Controller differences shouldn't be used as a reason not to do it - just give people the option to play on their own network or play cross-network (that's what Rocket League does). If people don't want to go up against kb/m or HOTAS they could just choose "Solo" or "Open - XBL" instead of "Open - XBL/PC".

The vision of the game has always been for everyone to be able to play together in the same Galaxy. The announcement from Microsoft regarding cross-play certainly helps us towards that vision, but there are many technical and infrastructure obstacles that need to be resolved.
I do feel it would be great if players had the option to play cross-platform so (as you say) they could then choose the game mode that suited them.

Yup, I can believe you're a hacker at heart. [yesnod]

Is Skyrim a space sim like ED? I'll be looking for it.

You mean... you've actually never played Skyrim?

It would be pointless going on about the Dragonborn and explaining what dragon shouts are then... :D
