Hello! SO, I found myself in the mood to write today, and I wanted to flesh out my "in-game persona," if you will, with a bit of a back story that may or may not be totally lore breaking. My aim is to take these concepts that I've come up with and skew them to fit with the already established lore of the Elite universe. The initial idea came to me after I, CMDR Dagoth-UR (I just had to use that name... Heh), had been blown to smithereens over and over again only to miraculously revive at another station.
I have little to no E
lore knowledge, so my mind was reeling for an explanation as to why and how this was possible... Thus came the Deathless Drives and with that a story of the Dagoth-Ur Clan in the E
universe... In addition to the aforementioned idea, I was scouring random wikis for articles on religion and how it evolved in the E
universe and came to the conclusion that this was another gap I wanted to fill in for my own enjoyment. I found virtually nothing in my search, no examples of modern religions that went on to evolve with mankind's reach across the galaxy, no new religions spawned from the astral wonders of space, nothing at all.
Without further ado, here is what todays lore crafting session resulted in:
I'll be using this thread to store more lore crafting sessions as I compile them, I'm far from finished. Feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed and encouraged. Like I said before, I aim to take these concepts and align them as best I can with the existing lore to make my character as lore friendly as possible, so feel free to tell me why something won't work or pop some ideas as to how I could make it work.
Thanks for your time! I know that's a huge wall of text and I appreciate those of you that might actually take the time to digest it all, that sort of thing motivates me quite a bit.

Without further ado, here is what todays lore crafting session resulted in:
Commander Dagoth-Ur, Varris:
Varris is a 27 Year old male pilot, newly enlisted Outsider of the Imperial Navy. He was born to a once noble family of the Empire, the Dagoth-Ur clan. Clan Dagoth-Ur consisted of faithful Empire citizens that were renowned for their contributions to the cloning and slave trading industries, as well as their controversial pursuit of "Immortality."
Clan Dagoth-Ur's Fall From Power:
Circa 3222, the Dagoth-Ur clan lost their status of nobility when they were ruthlessly hunted across the galaxy by their former business and research associates turned rivals, House Vex. The feud between the families was a result of increasing competition in the cloning industry and the abrupt abandonment of their alliance for selfish gains. The rival family and their scientists were hit with a crippling financial blow and lost years’ worth of research when Clan Dagoth-Ur dissolved their shared facilities and seized their assets without warning.
Relations between the Dagoth-Ur's and Vex had suddenly become strenuous when Clan Dagoth-Ur began to distance themselves from their partners and conducting secretive research without their knowing. They eventually disbanded a large number of the Vex'Ur Union Labs in a matter of months, the dissolution of these facilities happened without the Vex being informed for a number of months. Years of research and progress had been locked away from the Vex, their scientists either dispersed across the Empire to other corporations or fled the Imperial Territories altogether. By the time they had learned of the Dagoth-Ur's deceit, the funds they had funneled into their research facilities had been absorbed and distributed to their former partners newly independent labs, all profits were halted and redirected away from the Vex as well.
The Vex, now struggling to maintain their own establishments and finances, then infiltrated and stole revolutionary cloning research and technology from the Dagoth-Ur's independent research facilities. They employed some of the most dangerous spy organizations within the Empire, using the very last of their dwindling fortune in a desperate attempt to thwart their betrayers agenda and regain the technologies they had lost. The internal assault was such a success that the Vex not only reacquired the research they initially lost, they stumbled upon the secret projects that caused the Dagoth-Ur to abandon the Vex in the first place. In a series of violent assaults funded by a supporting corporation of the Vex and their private army, the secret projects were utterly taken and Clan Dagoth-Ur lost nearly everything. Their facilities were sacked and destroyed, their bloodline was hunted down by hired guns, and their fortune was taken out from under them.
The Vex had come out on top and reestablished itself with the revolutionary "Singular Conscious Reassignment and Preservation", also commonly referred to as "SCR-P Booting", "Mind Shifting" and sometimes "SCRAPing." It's a mind transferring technology used to preserve a person’s consciousness, or the soul if you will, in the event that their body is destroyed. It is the alternative to being condemned to an end and is widely spread throughout humanity, it is most prominent within the Empire but also appears elsewhere across the galaxy.
This technology was derived and refined from the research and tech that was taken from the Vex's rival laboratories. These devices were initially deemed "Deathless Drives" by its original developers, Clan Dagoth-Ur.
Stragglers of the Dagoth-Ur bloodline managed to escape certain death and went into hiding for many years after their initial downfall. They have gone all but unnoticed, scattered throughout the stars, slowly rebuilding their family and plotting to rise from the ashes.
The Key To Immortality, The Legacy of Clan Dagoth-Ur:
The Deathless Drives are small neural implants, two separate devices shaped like thin saucers that are roughly the size of a small washer. The plates, about half an inch in diameter, are inserted just beneath the membrane of the occipital lobe. The devices are accessed through three separate ports, one is placed in center of the occipital bone of the skull and the others are on either side of the third cervical vertebrae. The ports are connected to the devices by organic wires that transmit information much like a computer.
The initial host of the technology undergoes a three day process of syncing their drives to those placed in their lab-grown bodies, once the syncing process is completed the customer is able to carry on with their life. Should the unfortunate event of death occur and their body is destroyed, the devices initiate their preservation and transference process and salvage the customer's consciousness. The transmission range of the Deathless Drives is incredibly great so customers typically don't have to worry about going too far across the galaxy from their clones. There have been extremely rare cases of impartial mind transfers when the range of transmission is pushed to its absolute limits, but even then the cases are very few and can likely be attributed to the customers preexisting mental conditions. These cases resulted in temporary loss of motor function, loss of or altered personality, schizophrenia, and sever epilepsy. 75% of these cases recovered in a matter of days when the devices were able to fully install the customers consciousness.
Deathless Drives are programmed with a special conscious shifting sequence that is linked to a network which is unique to each customer and their personal devices. As soon as the lab-grown body reaches maturity and the incubation period is over, the drives and their ports are then implanted in the clone and synced up with the original. This process renders the newly grown body void of consciousness and initiates a stasis period that can preserve the clone in perfect ageless condition for fifty plus years.
These devices sustain themselves entirely on an infinite-organic battery and micro-radio-transmission systems, eliminating the need for additional computers or charging stations for the technology to function in it's fullest. The purchase initally consists of two devices, a clone and a six month rental clone-pod slot within the local "Puppet Hive." There are many payment plans for either pure rentals or rent-to-own deals for managing these assets, insurance is also offered on the clones, the devices, and their storage units.
The clones are typically housed in storage facilities located on major space stations, colonized planets, personal satelites, or even on large colony ships. The storage facilities are commonly referred to as "Puppet Hives." Renting clone-pods within a community Puppet Hive is the most affordable plan and is usually paid for with monthly payments; owning your own clone-pods can be very pricey but is well worth the security of never having to worry about whether or not your new body has been terminated due to missed payments. Personal Puppet Hives are typically attached to a residential domicile, personal ship, or privately owned satelite. The most common way of handling your stock of clones is keeping one on your ship and two or three at your home in the event that your ship is destroyed.
Varris Dagoth-Ur's Religious Views:
Varris Dagoth-Ur is a devout follower and aspiring Gothi of the Temple of Aetherius, home to the religion of Aetherism. This religion views the "Aetherial Self" as the "One True God." They believe that housed within their souls is the infinite potential to achieve godhood and ascend from mortality entirely, through this ascension they become Aetherial in matter and exist between the threads of reality with the ability shape the universe as they see fit, like a true god. It is taught that the First Tribunal of Gothi is responsible for man's initial reach into the stars, that once they ascended and achieved their infinite potential they allowed mankind to reach even further across the universe.
The generalized philosophy of the religion is to live life the way the individual sees fit, to nurture and strengthen the individuals soul through meditation, to expand the individual's consciousness through any means necessary, and to aspire to be like those that have reached the infinite potential.
Meditation is an important part of their worship, it is conducted in a mass gathering at their churches and temples, followers often meditate in their spare time by themselves as well. The meditation is similar to that of ancient Buddhism, they clear condition their minds with chants taken from their religious texts for their chanting sessions.
Another practice of Aetherism is the ritualistic use of certain psychedelic drugs, they call these services "Trials of Expansion," and are performed to assist in the expansion of one's consciousness. This practice comes from the story of First Tribunal of Gothi's ascension, where they consumed a rare alien mineral that was discovered inside of an asteroid that had collided with the Moon colony of Earth. The substance is referred to as "Aethrimsonite", the story of it's discovery is completely true and is backed by historical archives. The effects of consuming the Aethrimsonite produce intense hallucinations lasting for up to five days and almost always resulting in a comatose, a vegetative state, or an extreme case of incurable schizophrenia.
The holy symbol for Aetherism is the "Third Eye" and the "Astral Tear"; devoted Aetherists, official or aspiring Gothi of the Temple, and high ranking members of the church typically wear the Third Eye on their foreheads and the Astral Tears on their wrists as tattoos, scarification, or hololight implants.
Aetherism has three holy texts: Trials of The Aetherial Eye, Infinite Self of Astral Tears, and the Aether Eddas.
