Damage bypassing shields

Hi,

I have been interdicted by players who were able to damage my ship modules without penetrating the shields. I think it may have been some kind of thermal damage.
How is this possible and how can I defend against such attacks?

"Waring! Thermal Atack!"

If you hear that, and being attacked by other cmdr, your only hope to survive is run.

Thats one of engineers special efects for weapons. An ability to dump heat to your taget, in cost of lesser dmg. But its so OP right now, that -25% of dps aint matters anymore by much.

You can defend from it using heat sinks, but not for long. Once you out of heat sinks, your adversary will cook you up, long as he continue to hit you with these weapons.

In my opinion bypassing shields is one of the worst decisions made during development of The Engineers. It ruins 30 years of Elite in-game logic that a shield protects until it is down. Bypassing shields removes the option to temporarily prevent damage accumulation making defensive tactics almost useless. No wonder that players quickly found out that this made weapons bypassing shields totally OP. I'm amazed the devs didn't think of this themselves. Hopefully shield bypassing is removed from the game ASAP.

The damage isn't bypassing the shields, what is getting in is heat. That heat is damaging the ships same as it does if you overheat while firing beam lasers.

As elpapo has said, heat sink up and run.

You can't, there are two ways of bypassing shields:

The overpowered and most common way (which is the reason why most PvPers are taking a break): Thermal meta. Simply overheating your ship with thermal attacks.
The not so overpowered way: Phasing sequence: A mod that allows weapons to "bleed" through shields. A small part of the damage goes through the shields at the cost of overall damage reduction. For example a Pulse laser deals 20 MJs/shot and with phasing sequence its total damage got reduced to 18 MJs/shot. Then maybe 4MJs per shot pass through the shields. Considering you have like armor without resistances it would take 200 shots to blow you up with your shields online. :)

Overheating while firing weapons happens because internally generated heat can't get out quickly enough, Until now this only happened close to a star due to high ambient radiation levels. Following that in-game logic a narrow laser beam or projectile hitting a shield should not have a significant heating effect. The devs broke this logic by letting extra heat pass through the shields.

Yeah you see it on youtube videos. Just no reason to PVP unless you rank5 and get experimetals for the heat meta. Just not worth it.

Is there a dedicated Audio Warning for receiving Phasing Sequence damage?

what we need is for a shield engineer to come up with a defence (logic) against thermal attack. I'm still trying to find one who has.
