Damaged power plant not fixable?

So I'm out doing exploration and some annoying pop up switched my screen off ED while jumping to another system, needless to say my control over the ship was lost, upon landing in the system the ship emergency stopped near the sun and I took damage, the AFM repaired everything damaged except it won't fix the power plant, but I don't want to go back to civilization just yet, is there some trick or is the power plant irreparable?

It is only slightly damaged so it's not something that I have to go back yet but then I've never been out this far and wondering if I should head back before it gets worse.

Things need to be offline to be repaired, which is sensible and realistic. As we do not yet have an auxilary power unit, how would you power your AFMU (not to mention life support) while your power plant was being repaired?

Kool, I was thinking along those lines, oh well I guess since I'm only using 68% of available power I should be good unless it drops below that.

Well, they've been saying about changing power plant behavior so they actually start reducing their power output the more damage they take (plus ships don't automatically go boom when they hit 0%). This implies that your power output doesn't drop with a damaged power plant at the moment. That rings true to me as whenever I took PP damage in combat, I never had my modules shut down as a result. So your ship should still happily be generating it's full power output, and the few % is indeed no reason to head home just yet. Have a good trip!

I've had one or two "incidents" out exploring and my power plant is down to 90%. Doesn't appear to be affecting anything as yet.
I carry AFMUs too, but they can't repair power plant, hull or canopy.

Unless you're down to like 20%, I wouldn't worry about coming back for any reason other than your own plans. Taking a few % damage out in the black is normal and expected. I'd probably only head back early if my canopy got damaged. Some people go on with cracks in the canopy, I'd probably find it too nerve wracking :)

That's what happened to me - got a "canopy compromised" message after an encounter with a Neutron star. It now looks like a piece of crazy paving so I AM heading home....
