Dancing Hula Girl - and other cockpit decorations...

So I was inspired by something Psykokow said in episode 57 of Lave Radio yesterday. The discussion regarding ship customizations had come up and how bandwidth intensive it would be for everyone to have their own custom paint job / decals on their ship. This would lead to predetermined patterns that could maybe be combined by commanders for less intensive personalization of their ships, but that's another story completely.

Psykokow said haphazardly that he would like some fuzzy dice and a disco ball. That got me thinking, hey why not? From what I can tell, you don't see the true inside of the ship as rendered by its pilot from the outside looking in, so there wouldn't be any bandwidth issue rendering the decorated cockpit across multiple hosts. Maybe we could hang imperial swords above the canopy screen or a disco ball. Perhaps have an onion-head bush growing in the co-pilot seat or a dancing hula girl toy behind one of the holofacs that shakes according to what's happenning to the ship (everytime you jump into supercruise or take damage for instance). Maybe an old pirate ship model for CMDRs that are naval fans. Thoughts?

P.S. - if you all haven't listenned to Lave Radio it's a fun show. They have all their episodes archived and you can find it at LaveRadio.com

*EDIT* Wow that picture is unreasonably large, but I can't figure out how to shrink it...

Well we used to have a bobblehead in the cockpit back in beta, don't really get why it was removed.

They could never get it to work quite right. It would always spazz out when docking. I remember reading somewhere it was causing other bugs as well, so I guess they just gave up on it.

At some point I began to fly with that thing turned off, so I never knew they had removed it/them (the Christmas tree being the option no 2). Not really worth crying over, but it might be a nice idea to be able to decorate the cockpit with something else - to personalise it.

Of course, then people would complain if the decoration were not visible to someone peeking in through the cockpit/bridge window, so perhaps better not go there...

Maybe it added too much permanent visual complexity for the Xbox 1 to handle?

Comments like this amaze me. The XB1 is probably more powerful than the majority of PCs people are using to play Elite.

The XB1 or PS4 can handle everything Elite can throw at it with ease.

Yeah, maybe in 900p :p

But i do miss my bobble head from the early beta days.
They were removed because like already mentioned they spazzed out while docking and it was rumored that the bobble heads caused stuttering but like we all know the stuttering is still present and not much better like back in the beta days so who knows for sure why it was removed.

Actually - seeing as I'm 19k LY from Sol on the edge of the dark, I would settle for a Wilson brand Volleyball with a bloody handprint on it.

being 25k LY from known space myself , I made sure I took a tennis ball and a permanent marker , she's not the best conversationalist though...I wish I'd brought something bigger , a space hopper maybe...but I wouldn't have been able smuggle that out in my suit.

If a bobblehead would cause problems due to physics, how about a solid, rigid toy instead? Like a toy soldier where we put glue on the base and stick it up on the dash like *ahem* how some of my friends do it...

I also miss the bobbleheads... some levity no matter how trivial would be quite welcome in those quiet moments...

A disco ball should only be allowed if you are flying an Anaconda with multiple gimbaled or turreted beam lasers. And then it should be equipped automatically.

If you're gonna fly a Discoconda, it should look the part
