Dangerous (More Like Derperous) Decisions

Hey all,

I dedicate this thread to the times us Elite: Dangerous pilots act truly dangerously (read: stupidly). Now, I have a saying: no human is stupid, but all humans are capable of stupidity (some more so than others, obviously), and I want to gather such moments from Elite: Dangerous pilots here so we can make good comedy out of them. :)

I'll start. First, please watch the below video I made (it's intended as a sequel to that Elite: Derperous video I made a few days ago) to get some context:

Okay, now for the gloriously stupid part. :D

So after falling prey to the "I have a family" scam of the Crimson Gang, I vowed never again to listen to pleas for mercy. I go to another nearby station and take on another Trader hunting mission.

I hunt down a trader for this mission, and, shock of shocks, yet again I get a plea for mercy. Thing is, I should have read this plea. But NO. I swore never again to fall for such tricks, so I just blast him outright. Thing is, the second I land a laser beam on him, there was a bounty on my head. Only 200Cr, no big deal I thought.

Then I proceeded to blow this trader to oblivion. Suddenly in my upper right-hand corner I get a big flash of text that now says there's a bounty on my head for 6,000Cr.

I wondered why this would happen when I'm on a mission to hunt these traders down. "No fair!" was my initial thought.

Then I looked at the updated contract. that I should have read when the trader pleaded for mercy. The update was that the trader would've paid me more than the original mission if I hunted down some pirates instead in a nearby system.

Seconds after this revelation, Federation patrol ships show up and erase me from existence. Not even a chance to repent. :(

Oh well...anyone else have their tales of stupidhood they're willing to share for laughs? Don't worry, we're all cool here.

It's pretty derpy, but currently I'm flying around exploring in an exploration-kitted Asp with not enough credits for insurance on purpose, in Open. If something happens to me, I lose all the data, and the Asp :) It's actually really engaging so far! I still have a trading T6 tucked around somewhere just in case :)

You really only touched on your biggest mistake here.

Having a mission does not make illegal things legal! If you kill a trader who is not wanted, you WILL get a bounty, mission or no! Even if the local ruling faction asked you to do it! Unless you're in an anarchy system, of course.
