Dangers of blackholes? Informationate me!

Currently heading back home from "The Eye of Fire"

Thought I'd stop by "The Great Annihilator" on the way.

I know BH's aren't modeled properly in ED, I just know sometimes heat can kill you.

Can somebody please tell me what i can expect from the BH? Heat? Exclusion zone? Most important thing, will it kill me?

I have come a very long way, please inform me before I reach there, don't wanna die stupidly just because I assumed wrong and then lose all my map data and of course waste an entire journey.

Thank you in advance[noob]

Throttle down during the hyperspace jump and you pretty much have nothing to worry about from black holes.

I seem to recall someone actually dropping from supercruise and flying into a black hole. They passed right through and took no damage.

Face planting a black hole can costs you around 1% hull, maybe a tiny bit of heat damage if you're unlucky.
The only dangerous scenario with them today is if the black hole is inside a jet cone of a neutron or white dwarf star. If you'd face plant one of those, you're lucky if you get out alive. :D
I've personally only encountered one system out of nearly 80,000 with that combination, though. :D

The exclusion zone around a Black Hole is tiny so it's easy to miss completely even if you're heading straight toward the middle.
If you do happen to hit the exclusion zone, it's the same as any other star. Emergency drop and heat buildup when re-engaging SC.

This is that exceptionally rare, hazardous black hole system I mentioned.
The dangers with arriving into a system like this is increased by the fact that the jet will push your ship instantly and rather aggressively, and if it happens to push you into the black hole's exclusion zone, you're kind of fudged. :D

Yeah, unfortunately the black holes in Elite Dangerous are roughly as realistic as the one in Disney's 'The Black Hole', other than a more or less accurate gravitational lensing effect.

Actually, other than the lack of accretion disks, in terms of appearance the game actually got them pretty accurate. Notwithstanding the fact that they're harmless.

...and the fact that they only bend the background light, not local. And that the shadows generated from black holes are still there. And a few more things. But, they're probably pretty good representations of what a black hole looks like.

You still face plant them if you hit them straight on. It's a really hard thing to do, remember they're only kilometres wide and we're travelling at speeds well above 30 km/s, instantly fractions of the speed of light when moving the throttle. :)
If you don't turn and just throttle up when arriving at a black hole system you will always face plant it, except for the few that may still be bugged.
