Dark Rides???

I would like to know if the game has dark rides yet. I plan on making a lot of dark rides (similar to the ones in Disney parks) for my parks. I have seen many gameplay videos, but have never seen any dark rides. Dark rides were mentioned to be in the works according to a livestream Planet Coaster had on youtube a while back. If anyone has information on this, it would be highly appreciated. Thanks [happy]

Hi!
Dark Rides are coming hopefully for full release. Most people have been making giant buildings and putting roller coasters inside them and calling it a dark ride but of course it is not proper, but this is a way to build them at the moment if you really want to [happy]

As with water rides and wild mouse rides nothing has even been mentioned one way or the other. Because of this I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Honestly I can't buy a theme park simulator game that lacks dark rides (and water rides) upon release. I guess I'll wait until those are added (if they are at all). I know it's called "Planet Coaster" and coasters are the main focus, but I would like the ability to build a theme park with every type of ride.

I would expect to see a Wild Mouse coaster at release, I'm sure the Devs know it is a well known coaster and it won't be missed out. As for water rides, I'm expecting a log flume/river rapids ride would come at release but as for water parks and a bunch of other rides, this would probably be a update after the game launch.

i think the recent improvements to the lighting they showed in the live stream was a hint at them working towards that goal, they would probably give you the dark ride tracks and cars much like the coasters and you can use the scenery/building components to create the rest of it, obviously. the new lighting system seems to be heading in a direction where it will indeed be dark inside of buildings/caves unless you provide lights inside them, or may already be that way for alpha 3.

It's also difficult to define a "dark ride" nowdays. Do we have it already or not? It's not a "yes", but neither a "no". Guess we have Gray-rides for now [tongue]

It's confirmed that when you build underground or in a tunnel, the lights will turn on because it will be "dark".
Guess this is part 1 of building a dark ride.

It was also said that omnimovers were planned, which are mostly (always?) used for darkrides.

Aha! I see what you're doing there... trying to get me to confirm the presence of omnimovers! But I shall tell you this much.. We have a couple of types planned, I cannot confirm which ones just yet...More surprises to come. (Q&A 3 - Meet the team - Sam Denney)
Last but not least we already have chessire cats confirmed, which is also mostly used for darkrides :

So when you combine those rides, and put them underground, you basically have a darkride i guess? There are only a few more things we might need to put the icing on the cake and being able to have realistic darkrides :
1. Darkness when inside buildings.
2. Ride events (opening and closing doors and stuff)
3. Custom music / loudspeakers (yes, here i am again requesting those, but darkrides without proper music in every scene is like a car without wheels to me)

At least custom sounds.

We have rides you can put underground, and inside buildings. What are those if not dark rides?

I think you need to google what a dark ride is [tongue]

And I will hold off buying the game until I know dark rides are available. I can wait. No rush.

There are two major issues with dark rides.

1) Tracks and Coaster types.

The major thing. A typical dark ride is continously powered, is only capable of slow speeds and does not appeal because of G-forces or so, but because of the fancy, spooky or whatsoever theming. Theming works well, but coasters don't at the moment.

2) Lighting.

So far, it was not possible to darken a room or make its lighting different from the outside. If sun rose, you saw it - even in a fully closed room. That is not good for such a thing either.

But - the cats are announced and they are improving lighting. There may not be a perfect functionality for DRs right now, but for release I am quite positive.

To OP, for what it is worth, the new ambient lighting they have showed off will make it more believable to build a dark ride then just build a building around it. The terrain tool is powerful and allows you to enclose rides fully under terrain and then build your building around it. I know it's not exactly what you are looking for but it's a start. Frontier is well aware of the demand for dark rides, water rides and transport rides.

I do truly feel there is a ton more done than we are actually getting access to. So if the above solution isn't your cup of tea I would monitor the progress. The next few months are going to be very informational as we move towards final release and they have yet to disappoint me. I trust them and their ability to release a very solid game with the features the community has been begging for

This is my biggest concern as well. I don't just want to see a "Ghost Train"/Pretzel-style ride, or even just omnimovers. I'd love to see KUKA/SCOOP systems, Suspended Dark Rides (Parkitect has one already), LPS/Trackless, etc etc etc.

Coasters are great, but what truly separates amusement parks from Theme Parks is top-level dark rides.
