Dark sides of planete full bright again?

For me these threads are always very confusing.

I grew up in a very rural area in the mountains, and when playing outside as children, with clear skies and only moonlight present, after 30 mins my eyes had adapted and I could imagine it to be a bright sunny afternoon.
Of course things are darker with overcast skies. Or in a forest. But that's not the case in Elite.
It should actually be even brighter than on earth, with no atmosphere and dust particles that reflect some of the light. And with rocky, glittery surfaces that reflect light extremely good, much better than urban surfaces. Ever wondered why the moon is so bright?

So yeah, much of this is subjective, but I'm fine with the dark sides in ED, even though to my eye, they are a bit too dark to be realistic.

Regardless of whatever reason anyone comes up with to justify the average lighting engine, the ambient light on night sides of planets looks garbage. More realistic lighting will make the game look better, less realistic lighting will make the game look worse.

I've literally seen 4 or 5 shade side planets actually dark, they looked really cool. One engineers base and a few times when I was logging out at ruins sites, the landscape was properly dark when I logged back in again the next day.

The rest of the time it's dark until I get fairly close, then it suddenly gets a bit brighter then as I get closer it suddenly goes almost normal brightness.

Would prefer darkness, it's so much more atmospheric and it's not like there aren't instruments to fly by.
