Dash for Rift: what will you use it for?

Purportedly out in the next few weeks, although Reddit Reddit suggests it will be s beta release, will be Home 2.0 and Oculus Dash!

And of course during the showcase of Dash, the first example was having a browser window open while playing ED. personally I'm usually too busy being blow up by something, or admiring the scenery before I crash into something and blow up, to watch Netflix while I play....

However, the concept seems popular. So, if you can have any app, or browser page open inside a window, presumably flouting somewhere in the cockpit, what will you use it for?

I guess I could have it open for YouTube while exploring. Maybe chrome for eddb so I can check out how much grind I need to do, and of course these forums.

But Netflix? I can't see me doing that so much. What about you?

If it happens and if it is good, i will have EDEngineer open if i am grinding for Engineer Mods, Inara most of the time, other ED 3rd party apps, and of course a browser window for email and YT!

Hope it does happen and i hope it works better the that 'V' thingy!

Well I'm hoping to god that Dash will at least allow me to open a virtual keyboard to type system names with - even if I have to copy the typed text to clipboard and then paste it into the search bar using a 'CTRL+V' mapping on my HOTAS. That alone will be a huge thing in Elite.

Other than that I'm just hoping it I can pin and use web browsers in game so I can search for places on interest and reference surface coordinates. Of course pinning a netflix window would also be nice for those long treks or watching some classic sci-fi in a sci-fi setting.

I have a few other ideas but I have no clue as to how pinned windows will work yet - if pinned windows can be interacted with without taking away focus from the main Elite window then I may have some ideas for transparent windows with scripted actions based on 'Mouse hover' events, that could be interesting indeed.

At the moment I have a "Things to Do" text file in notepad that I use to tell my what I should be looking at next. I can copy and paste from there.

What I'd use this dash thing is to have easier access to that text file.

Good call. I too have a TODO list (don't we all?). If we can copy/paste system names into galaxy map navigation box then that would be pretty darn cool!

That Sir, is an excellent idea, and one i fully intend to try out even for tonight, maybe even move to an Excel sheet? Hmmmmm, the mind is tingling.

I've just thought of something else I might use dash window embedding for ... monitoring my screenshots folder when I'm racing. There's nothing worse than finishing a race and discovering you've missed a vital screenshot!

Oooh, and another one ... watching Frontier and Lave Radio livestreams, while photobombing same livestreams. :p

That is a very good idea. Time to start copy and pasting information from the forums on to a notepad page. But I really can't think of anything else I would use it for.

I had another idea, I'll probably use it to open windows containing these images from time to time ...
