Newcomer / Intro Data Link Scanner and Nav Beacon

I started fresh with ED:VR and I remember that during the tutorial I had to manually scan the nav beacon with the data link scanner. But after the tutorial I could never do this anymore. The nav beacon automatically gets scanned when it's selected and I'm close enough. And the data link scanner is... for nothing? (I've tried combat & analysis mode, tried primary/secondary fire)

Am I missing something obvious here?

D/L scanner is not for nav - try it on Data Points in bases, and on megaships. Lots of places. Just ...not Nav Beacons

Data link scanner is for scanning data points. The NAV beacon does not have a data point - never has had. I think you might be confusing the tutorials.

There are many MANY different places with data points - from crashed beacons and probes, comms uplinks, data points in settlements, etc etc...

Those are what your Data Link Scanner is for.

Thanks for the clarification. I could swear it was a beaon in the new tutorial, but, that's ok. At least I don't worry about it now.
