Data Link Scanner failure

I decided to give planet missions a go and took one to hack an operations terminal in a city. I took out the turrets (gaining a load of fines in the process) and found a bunch of security terminals, a power station and the operations terminal that I think was the target of the mission. However, to get to the operations terminal I had to boost over a force field as I couldn't get through it due to not being able to use the data link scanner.

I'm pretty sure this has to be through incompetence on my part. I've searched the web for others having similar issues and everything I've found was from at least a month ago. I've tried all the suggested fixes to the bug that was reported ages ago (binding to primary fire, binding to a key, using in turret mode, making sure fire deploys weapons is set to on etc.) but I simply can't get the data scanner to work. I failed the mission as I ran out of time whilst slamming my head against this particular brick wall.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? I can't believe there's a problem with the game itself as if there was Frontier would have simply pulled the missions from the mission roster until it was fixed. That's simply common sense.

I've been having issues with this, and I can't remember if it's something I've broken by messing with my controls, or what have you. But lately I've only been able to scan certain data points when in turret mode.

Edit:
I'm an idiot and didn't read your post clearly enough. Leaving my shame for all to see.

Edit 2:
Will I redeem myself? Yesterday I found that somehow my data link scanner button had also been bound to a targeting button. Every time I tried to scan something it would change targets. I don't think I did this myself (though it's possible), so perhaps a recent update messed with your bindings?

I have a similar problem. What I do to work around this is have both the SRV's guns and data scanner in the same group, 1. Then when I want to use the scanner I de-select the guns in the group. This way when you press the fire button the data scanner works. This works for things like those downed round satellite things. For the data tower aerials I have to go into the turret.

Tried that but it didn't work for me. I think I'd best put a support ticket in and see what the good people at Frontier say about it.

Thanks for the replied though, chaps.

I have done missions needing you to scan private data links, and here is the problem. You have public data links and private data links. If private you will be fined and set off local defences.
To access links on base easier to use turret mode and make sure you are close (Which makes data link rise up), target data link eye (Which will now show you if public or private) and then press scan (if you have fire deploys weapons should work or deploy using key you have set).

To do mission correctly you switch off force field by accessing private data link near force field (think marked security terminal). But this means you will now be under fire.
Once force field down normally you can scan target without being shot at. As other building stopping most things shooting you. But plan your escape route before all of this as quick exit needed now you are under fire.

Given SRV only has 1 weapon 1 scanner, I have my mouse buttons assigned. Weapon on 1 and scanner on 2.

Hope this helps.
