Newcomer / Intro Data Point Booby Traps?

Was at an abandoned site that was surrounded by turrets. I didn't want to scan any data points or uplinks for fear that it might activate other systems like...defense. Put me in a frame of mind to stop scanning any data at sites. I'm not much into the role play aspects so I didn't figure I was missing anything. But am I?

Is it safe to scan the data thingies at abandoned sites and crash sites?

Sometimes as you approach a rake of skimmers will spawn so be wary. Or a drop ship arrive with npcs hellbent on your destruction, but as a rule...no it's safe....ish.!

nothing will auto activate that isn't already on
that does mean abandoned, if there is power, then there is security, but no one to see you do anything.
so the only bad thing you can really do is shoot at permanent fixtures like the defence weapons. go disable security and enjoy, but keep an eye open at all times for, as Dragsham said, a dropship bringing scavengers or pirates to kill you. its what they do.

never yet seen an abandoned Horizons style settlement, but that's where the skimmers come in.
And yes for them there are trigger locations to make them pop out of the dirt and come at you.
