Newcomer / Intro Data scanner in the SRV (rover)

Hi All,

Let me first say, oh boy, this is fun, rumbling over the surface of far away planets and slowly get an understanding of different sonar images and sounds.

However, one thing puzzles me, the data scanner. I noticed in the controls setup a key needs to be assigned for that and it has a description that it should do a simple scan (I forgot the literal description) when tapping the key and more in depth one when holding it. While in the game though either tapping, or holding the bound key doesn't seem to do anything. Actually scanning seems on all the time, so am I misunderstanding something, or is this something that's obsolete now Horizons is out of beta?

I found an object called a Data Node (or something similar) and I had to hold the key and it performed an actual scan. I assume you can only scan certain things.

Hm, didn't think about things like that, oh well, the key binding is there, so it happens when it happens. Thanks for the info. :)

Scanning crashed beacons seems to work correctly and you receive a bounty for recovering the data. You can redeem this at an appropriate starport (maybe planetary installations as well - I don't know) just like a combat bounty.

Scanning the data pylons does not seem to work correctly at the moment.

I think that's the thing I scanned. One of those aerial drones popped out of it when I got close so I shot it, scanned the data thing, and then in my bounties it says I can turn some sort of credit into the Alliance?
(Might be worth noting that I'm not pledged to anyone in the Alliance nor was I in Alliance space, which I found odd. Why are The Alliance the only ones interested in the data?)
