Data

Is it just me or is like all data for this game way out of date? I'm looking for black markets to unlock The Dweller. And I don't know where to look so i'm using the internet. Every single site that I find with black market sites is wrong. barely any of the places are the same as what is listed. Most sites that inform you where to buy things are wrong and out of date. Ships are not being sold at the same places listed on most of these sites. And there is no way to tell in game short of going to the location what is and is not there.

We really really need a better system and for things to stop being moved around.

You mean the unpaid third party sites? Do you help to keep them updated?

TBH, not having the same problem - I expect prices to be off as markets and system states fluctuate.
Not had any problem with black market locations or ships though. Maybe the odd module but that is it.

That data you speak of is not "official" game data, nor are those websites or tools from FD. All those sites and tools are made by players in their free will and in their free time.

The data you see is collected by players in a volunteer basis, and seeing that the galaxy is huge is dynamic and only a very tiny fraction of the players are collaborating to gather and publish what they find, obviously much of it will be out of date.

First off, I was not attacking the sites.

And second i'm not talking about prices. I'm talking about things simply being wrong such as stating a object as being sold at a location when it is not such as ships. And for example the site i'm looking at tells me that there is a black market on Hannu Dock in 31 Aquilae and i'm sitting there at this moment and there is not black market there. Now if your site is perfect then please provide a link and help us all out.

Also, this is to point out that FDev are making it very very hard for people to keep track of this data, not to say "OMG theses guys suck and life"

I didn't say you were.
My point was that (and I undoubtedly use the same sites you do) markets, systems and states fluctuate and all these influence what is available and when. (Certainly in terms of prices, ships, modules etc)
You can use the data on the sites to make an informed opinion and 9/10 times it will work.
If you cannot find a ship/ module in your location, then look close by - Inara I have found to be 95% accurate on finding me discounted ships and modules. Make sure you have the 15% discount ticked.
As for black markets - as I said, never had that problem. I'd say search by Anarchy system and you will probably find them.

Before I used the third party sites I maintained extensive spreadsheets, much like the handwritten notes I used back in '84 to keep track of market prices. It is part of the game.

Sorry if it came off wrong in my first post. The websites are great for general info. I just wish FDev would make it a little easier on us by adding a in game way to see more info. We do not even need prices. Just what is offered. Hell, I don't know how they do it but some other games have ways for external programs to keep track of this stuff.

Not an expert but believe you can do precisely this if you release your login information to the sites - and where you then go it will update the third party sites IIRC.......I'm not that trusting though and prefer to rely on my notes, huge information from this forum and so on.....

And I think the new filters in 2.2 should help you too.

We really ... things to stop being moved around.

it is called "living, breathing galaxy" for a reason. i think, it is great, that things change - and that it pays to know the neighbourhood

- black markets can disappear by power play, and by faction change, and by economic states. best place to always find one, is an anarchy system - pirate factions always have one, if not for powerplay.

- you will always find a black market in archon delains powerplay controlled space, and you will never find one in arissas and panav antals controlled space (they block them)

- similar for commodities. several commodities are illegal depending on goverment type, so they might get blocked when goverment changes. again, anarchies are the place to get them all - if economy type produces them.

best thing is, galaxy map, system map and trade data purchaseable ingame provide all those infos.

because the galaxy is changing, 3rd party tools, which rely on players feeding it with info, are mire often outdated, if you play in a part of the galaxy, where not a lot of player come through. eddb.io, the tool i mainly use, shows the age of its data - if data is older than 48 hours, i double check with the galaxy map, before i fly 60 ly to buy some battle weapons or narcotics. works.

Just look in the galaxy map at the stations information. The system map tells you exactly which service is available.

For improving the search, you can always use inara and eddb.io but these informations get uploaded by players so it is actual like players with market connector or similar tools visit systems.
I would recommand you to use yourself the market connector to improve these networks for all and your own usage ;)

Trade data only offers basic info such as facilities on the station. That does not help with black markets as they are just under that contacts tab and I don't think i've noticed a station without contacts. They list very few basic imports and exports and nothing else much worth anything. Really makes you feel like you paid someone but before they could tell you anything they just jumped in their ship and ran. So no, trade data does not offer all that data and barely offers anything at all. It does not even offer what ships are for sale. Things they should all be very simple to get info on from any trader coming from that location. Hell, the stations should be keeping track of up to date products and prices of all nearby systems if they really plan on doing any trade with anyone at all. I fail to see how this "living, breathing" market has survived this long without the trade of basic information.

You have to remember that a lot of black market goods have been stripped in a lot of systems, there is a lots of cmdrs unlocking the dweller.

ever had a look at a system map? blackmarkets are listed there as facilities (left columm):

illegal goods are also listed there, so they won't be produced (so no narcotics or tobacco from that station, even if it is a agricultural station)

for trade data - purchase trade data, change map in galaxy to economy, show trade routes for the commodity you are looking for, purchase system data of potential sources.

One thing in particular to bear in mind is that systems exploited by Archon Delaine automatically get black markets added to them - so there can be a great deal of fluctuation of which systems have black markets as regions fall in and out of his influence.

This is how the game has evolved over time. It was once a game with no 3rd party tools. Then it was really hard to find things.
Then some 3rd party tools came online, and it made things a little easier.
Then some more came along, and added to what was already there, and it was becoming much better as people ammended and helped out.

And this is how the game has changed. From those who slogged along, finding stuff out and helping others along the way .....
to the instant gratification of today and the moan when something that is a user based tool isn't correct.

Not really an issue .... all you have to do is sell 1t of illegal to 5 black markets.

Yup, the sites are only as good as the info that goes into them.
If you don't put in, don't complain about what comes out.

Personally I swear by http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/ and take the time to update pricing when I'm in trading mode.

I believe a lot of the tools are using shared info now that can be auto-collected but I think that only goes as far as prices, not system info - that needs manual input.

Market Connector, eddb and Inara are all connected and mostly does it all with regards to Outfitting. System detail (station distance and the like) is manual. In fact, MarketConnector is automated now so it will do it for you when you land at a station.
