Engineers Datamined Wake Exceptions

I ran out of these.

I had a lot, got them several months ago and now I went to try and get a couple more and... The drop rate is absurdly low.
I have been here for 2 hours and nothing. Tried different stations, nav beacons and nothing.

So I can only assume, 1- the RNG gods are playing me a good one, 2- the drop rate was nerfed with a rocket propelled sledge hammer, or 3- there is method? Does the system status makes a difference?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

As far as I know there is literally nothing you can do to influence the drop rate. Hanging around outside a station in 1) a high population system that 2) is in boom will at least give you a lot of ships waking out to scan and if the rate slows down a quick jump to supercruise and drop back down should start them coming again. Other than that, try sacrificing a few chickens and maybe burning some incense.

Distribution centres at star systems in famine.

A constant stream of wakes and if you engineer a longer range scanner you can just sit in one spot.

Tedious, but quicker than anywhere else by a long way. :)

For the glory of satan, our lord and savior.

Honestly this is ridiculous. Before it was tedious but doable, now this is just borderline stupid.

This is good advice. I was looking for a long time with no luck, then tried this. Be aware that not all systems in famine will have a distribution center. I went to several systems before finding one. Scan the system upon entering and it should show up in your left hand nav panel. There will be four Type Nines and about six becons. Just wait for the constant stream of ships jumping away and scan their wakes. It took me about two hours to collect 27. Good luck.

I was just now in a dist center, after 30 minutes I got 0.
And Now I have to shut the game because I have to work!
So this RNG thingy that frontier is so proud of costed me 2 hours and 30 minutes and I got nothing except 112 Atypical something something and a lot of strange wake solutions, which I don't need and there is nothing I can do with them either.
I suppose I can try tomorrow again, but I dont want to, like really I do not want to.

Sorry for the mini rant. But I am tired, and I was supposed to have fun today.
This sucks.

Thanks for the advice people, indeed there are a lot of ships in these Distributions Centers. Seems like THE place to get these thingies.

bye.

Yes that's the way to get them. Just make sure your data isn't full, because it will fill up rather quickly with junk if you forget to check.

You're not alone, alas. I've been in the same 'boat' (ahem) for a while now and have kind of given up.

It's beyond stupid imho, and certainly not fun to play.

Not for the first time, and over many years, I do seriously wonder if FDev want the player to enjoy playing the game. Sometimes their actions suggest not - at least for the more casual player.

Last time I tried this at a distribution centre in a famine system three ships jumped in (two sideys and a T6 I think) took on supplies and jumped out. Then I sat there for ten minutes and nothing else happened.

I've had some be completely empty. I just keep looking till I get a good one.

Yep, exactly. I got 30 (well 10 scans worth) or so easy peasy in maybe 45 minutes?

According to Me, drop rate is 25/hour in distribution center. I was farming them several hours (watching TV). I used HIP 50032 yesterday. Scan nav point. 2 centers at 2 and 5. In front of the station I got 12 in 5 minutes.

Edit: Navigation beacons will form 2 lines towards T-9s. Along that lines there will be 2 main exit points from distribution center arond 5km away where wakes tend to group (call it cluster). Pick one and sit there (almost no moving, just scanning) or after 2x4 scans go to another few km away from the distribution center (T-9s) to save few mins per wakes drop. Do not bother for that single wake outside of those 2 wake clusters. I would recommend wide angle A scanner over fast scan because of reasons beyond my literacy.

If you dont see distribution center, H-wake out and back or relog.

I believe far better way is to scan in front of the high population famine station because reasons.

Hardcore mode: bind mouse movement with the *select next target*, and put a duck tape on second mouse button binded to wake scanning. That way You can bang a table with your knee or Your head (iron man mode) every minute to do semi-automatic wake scan.

I'd suggest not grinding for them at all, if you feel that way. Just fit a wake scanner to whichever ship you use most, be it for trading, mining, combat or other. Henceforth, every time you leave a station, where there's usually a bunch of wakes there from recent departures, just take the extra minute or two before jumping out to scan a few the wakes, and before you know it, you'll be rolling in Datamined Wake Exceptions. And the best thing? You never had to even try, it more or less just happened on its own over the course of a few weeks.

The higher the population, the more ships will arrive/depart at a distribution centre. I get drops at around 1 every 10-15 wakes scanned but if you choose the right system you will be scanning pretty much all the time without a break. Just remember to keep clearing your data of stuff you don't need as it will soon fill up.

Agreed

Higher the population the more DWE's Ive seen, even if it feels like there are similar amounts of ships coming in and out
