Date of PowerPlay for the great unwashed?

Don't be too impatient, it will come soon™.

Personally I hope that the current Powerplay gets scrapped and rehauled, as it currently is just a second layer of missions for which you get no credits and have to compete with your own allies.

You also don't have a reason to stay loyal to a power, as switching between factions and getting the faction locked weapons/modules is more attractive than to stay with the same faction.

I doubt it will, as it appears to be working as designed. Many can dislike the design and try to influence it...but not sure how successful this will be.

The less I read this view, the less sympathy I have for it. If people are playing for credits and not the experience of being involved in the actual game part of Powerplay, then that's their problem.

Same if they are simply playing for the weapons, which IIRC aren't that great shakes anyway - and nor are they meant to be. Then they can go play something else. Good riddance to them too.

Edit: I actually think this game more than many others should work better for this NOT happening, as it's a slightly older demographic who I'd like to think don't want to collect weapons for the sake of collecting weapons.

Careful what you wish for.
The upgrade was written by Mr. Grindy McGrindsomemore ;-)

There are some stunning enhancements to sound NPC AI fighting abilities, docking comp etc. in 1.3 (which are fabulous).
But personally speaking PP itself leaves me colder than a week-old corpse in the middle of winter.
I'd rather stick rusty pins into my eyeballs than join the "fun" that is PP (is politics really so immersive? Not for me it isn't :( )

Best wishes to those that like it. Enjoy. I shall give it a miss.

But all games are basically fancy Skinner boxes, you do an action and you get a reward. I think many people don't feel like they're getting a good enough award for the effort they have to put in for PP, especially since your efforts are reset turning it into a grind.

Also not to be nitpicky Barking_Mad but I think you mean "The more I read about this view" not "The less I read about this view".

Nailed it. :)

(Also not to be nitpicky but I think you mean "they're" not "their")

I don't have access to beta but I'm already tempted to defect and re-pledge to a few parties as I'd like to try their different gear. That special shield would be nice to have, and I would like to test the Imperal hammer and the shield-only weapon... I'm already collecting all ships, it is likely I will start collecting this kind of gear. :)
