Hi everyone,

I hope you enjoyed reading this morning's Powerplay announcement... http://bit.ly/1K81aPS

On that note, David Braben will be joining us on the forums tomorrow (24/04/15) for a Powerplay specific AMA.
If you've got any questions, post them below. David will be answering the questions live tomorrow, but we'll be looking through this thread in preparation.

Cheers,

Ed

Moderator note: please summarise your question in ten words or less in your post title - we will try to use that when collating answers

Thanks very much. Interesting read in the newsletter.

A new GalNet feed accessible directly from the ship User Interface, and a better player inbox to track options in branching missions.
An overhauled mission system to support Powerplay's new objectives and to give players dedicated missions based on rank and status.

Can David give us some more details about these? Does this mean the existing missions are staying but there will be more, or are the existing missions getting a good scrub?

Looking forward to it. When does the beta begin?

Also can you be allied with multiple Powers? Ie several Federation ones? What happens if you defect? Do you lose all reputation with them (to stop folks yo-yoing back and forth between several?).

Also, since players will be able to ally with the new factions, will they be able to organise those factions and does this mean more control of things like stations?

Going by GalNet, most of the factions seem to be Imperial - Patreus, Torval etc - with a few Federation names like the President and vice-President. Are we also going to see NPC Alliance factions and independent groups as well?

And are we really expected to believe that Aisling Duval is capable of organising her way out of a paper bag?

How do players add to their chosen faction's Command Capital?

How will supporting a "Power" influence my standings with the "Major Factions"?

1) David, what's it like balancing the needs of a business built around what has become a cultural landmark?

2) Krait, Mamba, Gecko. When?

3) How will the PowerPlay mechanics work with the existing minor faction influence system control mechanics? Will these still work in systems not contested by Powers?

4) Will there still be Community Goals outside of the PowerPlay Power struggle?

5) Is PowerPlay manually gamemastered behind the scenes - eg will there be authored plot points, or is the development of the PP macro game purely determined by player actions?

5) Is the character artwork for Senator Patreus in any way based on community member Titus Balls' 'space buccaneer' avatar?

Will there be independant powers to back, and can player backed minor factions become powers if deemed important enough. E.g. The Crimson state.

I know it's way too early to talk about ETA on DLC.
But I can't help thinking about it...
Are DLC into any kind of production stage?

Thank you for this awesome game!

Q: Frontier seem to be slowly delivering the final elements of the Kickstarter rewards (e.g. Founder's golden decal announced in this newsletter). Will this also include the DDF "god like powers" anytime soon, or is that still to be decided and worked on?

How do you plan to balance the player influence over different factions? Would it be acceptable for Frontier if by player choice one of the major factions (Alliance/Empire/Federation) is wiped out?

Are unaligned players by definition invaders so free targets as soon as they show up in a system? This with regards to:
"The Pilots Federation waives all penalties for engaging invaders in combat during times of war, so you'll have license to attack anyone from a rival power in your own territory without incurring a bounty. We're giving players a reason to engage in PVP against supporters of other factions, and a chance to feel like part of a team even if you prefer to play alone.

Will it be possible for some of these factions to be completely wiped out, if they do very badly? Or perhaps make alliances with others?

  • What is in it for pilot's who would prefer not to pledge allegiance to any of these galactic powers? Both in terms of gameplay opportunities, and in terms of perks and rewards, because the newsletter makes it seem like you miss out on everything if you remain neutral.
  • How big are these rewards going to be? More along the lines of "10% cheaper repairs", or closer to "exclusive ships and equipment"?
  • Will there be criminal factions to join? This ties in to an other question: will a faction need to actually own some volume of space? I would be interesting to be able to join a drug cartel, smuggler ring, pirate clan etc., but these tend not to actually own systems, but rather operate within a certain area that may overlap with multiple other factions.

Will players be able to change factions? If they can will there be some kind of cooldown or will they be able to switch constantly?

Will there be any improvements to trading in 1.3 (ie. any changes to make it more volatile, make agricultural worlds less dead-endy)
