Day Dreaming about massive trading ships

So I was just thinking about how cool it would be to be able to pilot really massive trading ships, I'm talking, too big to fit in a station, 10,000 ton cargo beast of a ship, when I had a cool idea for a new game mechanic. Just as a disclaimer, this isn't something I think Frontier is planning or would ever implement, just some day dreaming that I thought I'd share.

OK, so imagine I can fly this giant ship close to any station and be able to access their commodities market price list, then put out the announcement that I'll buy any type of commodity at a price I set. Then, my ship gets set up as a commodities market other commanders or NPC's could access and buy or sell at.

So the idea is, I can find a station that sells some commodity at a really low price, say I'll buy it at a little higher, other commanders can make a quick buck doing short round trips from the station to my ship until the price at the station goes up too much that it's not worth it anymore. Then go to a station buying that commodity at a high price and I sell it slightly lower. Now other commanders can buy from me and sell at the station in another quick round trip.

For others buying or selling from me, the profit is lower, but the trips are really quick. For me in the big ship, profits are also lower, but I make up for it in shear quantity.

Anyway, that's all, just a neat idea that I think it sounds fun. It's not something you need to take seriously because I'm fairly certain Frontier has already said they don't want to make ships too much bigger than the Anaconda, but I can still dream can't I?

Sound like fun,however i foresee a problem.
Players can tend to get stuck in loop, especially new players. If the profit is too good they could conceivably spend their whole time shuttling cargo around the same star port.
I feel sure with enough consideration this game mechanic could work,i just don't think FD would want to encourage a career shuttle pilot.

I don't know, I think it's like anything. People get stuck in trading loops now between 2 stations, this way, at least they'd be doing something with a group of people, you could form a little gang that follows you around from station to station. Anyway,I do see what you're saying, it would need to be balanced, thanks for discussing.

Are you referring to the imperial debt liquidation business....

I'm pretty sure they've also said something about not wanting to create any carrer path where you can just park your ship someplace, go AFK for a while or even log off the game, and when you come back you find you've made a bucketload of cash for no effort.

From a lore perspective: why on earth would a space station tolerate a rival merchant in a spaceship coming along and setting up shop right outside their door like that? Wouldn't they simply order you to leave, and send their goons after you if you refused?

from a lore perspective, how does this affect black markets? they are already inside the station, aren't they? the big ship could be outside of the fire zone or just a bit far away..

For pirates however, there should be a way to knock out this ship owner to avoid loging or self-destruct so they have time to steal EVERYTHING. when this happens I will approve!
