Interesting, but he's being very coy about Elite 4

Yes, sigh. Wikipedia say "the Outsider" released xmas and Elite 4 after that. No news from DB; still, an interesting look on how Eilte evolved. Definitely a spike of activity on the forums recently too. Surely it must be leading up to something....

btw interesting he says he would have made manual docking easier. It's difficulty was one of the things that added to the "will I make it back safely" nail-biting moments to me.

I thought it was going to be something along the lines of "DB has decided not to make Elite IV after all".

I was gearing up for one of my tantrums :)

Enjoyed the Q&A last night, as DrBaggy pointed out DB was a bit coy about E4.

A couple of the Questions stood out for me

Q: Modern space games don't have the immediacy and rapidity of Elite ie cutscenes. Would you retain the arcadestyle in an update? (webfundi)

DB: Yes. Personally, I find long cut scenes annoying as they detract from the game.

That is great news as far as Im concerned, I know that games have to put the story across, but Elite never did that ingame, you found out as you went along.

Q:I loved Elite and Frontier, never played F2. Any chance of even an update or reimagining of Elite for PC? Or Elite 4 ;) (steeliXS)

D.Braben: Who knows… watch this space! :)

Cue huge grin, anyone at Frontier like to elaborate on this???

I was chuffed to bits to see my question come up there  not as much as my 6yr old daughter who went mental for ages

Shame it was only for 1/2 hour and not many questions from the forum (from what I could tell were up there.

I can't see E4 not being made, It would have been great to get a timescale on it even a confirmation that production had started. but as our friends at Frontier are a shy and retiring bunch.......perhaps one of them could point out to DB that he hasn't been on here for a while though.

Really enjoyed it.

i was also quite intrested to see the question about possable remakes of elite being made for xbox live arcade and the playstation network, his answer 'You never know! It depends on me sorting things out with Ian Bell.' is certainly not a no by any means. it would be a great way to celebrate elites 25 birthday and bring the game to a new audience, after all monkey island an dbubble bobble have just been released on there to much success.
btw does anybody know what the falling out with DB and ian bell was all about? it seems a shame that on this great anniversary that its two creaters shouldnt get together with a glass of wine and toast their success

You can find it easily enough if you Google it (try: david barben ian bell fall out) but be aware that there are two sides to every story and the majority of the 'information' found is long water under the bridge. This stuff was sorted a long time ago and it looks like Ian will be making an appearance along side David here: http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1353
