DBX BUFF : Class 5 internal ,ONLY for the fuel scoop

A class 5 internal specifically for the fuel scoop will not unbalance the DBX in Combat or trade, it just makes life a tad easier in Exploration :)
(Remove Class 4, add a restricted Class 5)

If this steps on the toes of non-explorers , then just do a straight swap of a 4 for a 5.

The small fuel scoop is an intended drawback of the DBX. Every ship has design tradeoffs. See also: FdL lack of internals and crappy jump range, Viper and Vulture undersized powerplant, Imperial Courier spontaneous combustion while scooping, many ships poor hardpoint placement. No ship gets everything it wants (except maybe the Python).

:p

The DBX just got a buff anyway. It's now an awesome cheap, short range explorer.

No SLF for the Python. This is good, you are right, every ship SHOULD have pros and cons.

Too right. Although, if FD announced the Python was getting an SLF, I wouldn't argue. :p

So far pretty much every ship has a good balance of pros and cons.
But the 3 most common ships are still the Asp, Python and Anaconda.

I think the Python and Anaconda are both a bit too good, personally (not advocating a nerf, though, as that ship has sailed. Besides, since the FdL buff I no longer mind the Python being so strong). The Asp's case is simply one of lack of competition, though the DBX buff has changed that some.

I think this debate just re-emphasizes the fact that ship design is built around money sinks and models, not around any sensible standard.

The game either needs procedural ship rendering, or it needs resizable models, both based on a mass/volume metric instead of stock compartments used for a game balance meta that can never satisfy everyone.

For me, I want a Viper IV the size of an AspX and with the majority of the ship designed around propulsion and sensors.

The stock Python that Cmdrs use is the nerfed Python, we now have to engineer it to get it to how it used to be,but yes, a superb ship.
The less said about the Anaconda, the better. There is a reason I call it the best ship in ED(I have one,but rarely use it)

currently my own impression is, that the balance between several exploration ships is very good. never have seen such a variety of ships flown by so many commanders.

a DBE with class 5 fuelscoop would tip the balance between AspE and DBE fully on DBEs side. currently an AspE has bit lower maximum range after engineering, while being a bit faster in real space, having more internals, and covers ~1-2% more distance in the same time buckyballing compared to a DBS, as its bigger fuelscoop makes up for its lesser jumprange. basically, if you want a DBE with a bigger fuelscoop, fly an AspE.

there are two other very exploration capable ships with a class 5 slot: the t6, and the dolphin. especially the dolphin is flown more regularly in exploration these days. and let's not forget about the orca.

which is why i personally don't think the DBE needs a class 5 slot, and especially not a restricted one for a fuelscoop. it's the only drawback it currently has against all its amazing features (low hullmass, easy to land, second best maximum jumprange after engineering, best heat capacity ingame ...)

If we could modify Fuel Scoops to be better, that'd solve a few things.

But like I said, the DBX is very well balanced as is.

When out in my DBX, if I'm low on fuel, I'll just sit inside the scooping zone and scan anything I can with my long range modded scanner, until I'm full up. :)
The DBX never overheats. Even with DD4. (Ran out of DD5 mats trying to beat the DD4 roll!) Lol

Was just about to say this^

There's quite a few modules that have engineering modifications for them that no one would ever sensibly need/want to use, shielded fuel scoop and all (but lightweight) limpet mods. They really missed some awesome potential mods for both of those.

I have to disagree. Its the only drawback really, and even then not a massive one. By the time I have gone around the star to the next destination, or scanned the star and looked at the system map, my tanks are full anyway. The only time it is an issue is when i havent been able to scoop for a long time, but as it jumps further then any other ship apart from the mega ship at everything the Conda, I don't see it as a major issue.

My DBX is my main exploration ship and currently doing the Ancient Alien Ruins with it (great guide by the way).
