Ship Builds & Load Outs DBX build, constructive advice requested and welcomed

O7 Commanders.

So, I've been van-driving, mainly for the Empire but not pledged, I'm 75% through Knight rank and I'm beginning to think that I don't want to be a van-driver anymore.

I've put together a DBX build, but I don't have the faintest idea about exploring, other than treading boldly, hopefully, where no one's trod boldly before.

Any constructive advice or comments are really welcome, especially regarding fuel-scooping. I want to shuffle off after I make my next rank, which should give me some time to plan a route.......which I also know nothing about.

TIA

here is a good thread on outfitting exploration ships: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/219633-How-to-build-exploration-ships

i anyway recommend a visit of the exploration subforum :)

commenting your build:

- ship choice. many will tell you that there are better exploration ships than the DBE. they are right. i neverthelss fly my DBE for any distance below <15 k because i love it. just have in mind, you could outfit an AspE or t6 with that money, which would perform better.

- no need for extra fueltanks. the DBE can make 6,4 jumps on a full tank. exploring with 4,5 is very comfortable, i mainly fly on 4 full tanks, and racers reduce it happily to 3 or 2 jumps.

- you want a detailed surface scanner if you go out exploring. beside getting additional info, you want the extra payout from that.

- no need for a-class sensors, a class life-support. -> d-class

- the DBE isn't fast, a class thrusters and a class powerdistributor won't help you to survive. -> d-class

- weapons have no defensive value in ED, besides (debateable) mines or one small turreted weapon. i personally would get rid of them for an exploration trip.

- depending on distance, you have to decide between 2 srvs and a d-class shield. it sucks to loose ones srv 15 k ly from the last station ---- on the other hand, if you drive carefully, you won't loose one.

- fit the smalles powerplant that can power your ship, and turn all unnecessary moduls off.

- return from your trip via a high security system at the edge of the bubble, to minimize any risk to be attacked.

things would look differently, if you plan on engineering your ship. but if you don't, here is a suggested build: https://coriolis.io/outfit/diamondb...AwRjNc0jKA==.Aw1-kA==?bn=Faraway Eyes Comment

Thanks for that.

I've done a few more missions since then and earned a few more credits, so I'm docked at a station that stocks Asp E's and just playing with a build that'll allow me to carry on doing what I'm doing for a little while but with higher profits. Might as well, since I'm so near to ranking-up.

I really need to read up on exploration and study the galaxy map a little bit more. I discovered something quite embarrassing to myself the other night when I zoomed right out.........I've been going the wrong way, apparently <facepalm>.
