DBX can't engine boost???

Hi,

Some context:

Both ships used the same engineered PP, thrusters, and power distributor.

2A PP giving 12 MW
4A thrusters with DD3
1D PD engineered for engine focus

The Type 6 is a medium ship yet CAN boost, yet the DBX can't?

What's going on?

For actual context the rest of the build would be useful. In any case the DBX is a heavy ship for its size while the type 6 is small for a medium ship, so the PD probably needs to be a little more powerful on the DBX. Size and mass are not the same thing.

The short anwer is 'the rest of the build' because a DBX and T-6 (with only the gear and engineering you specified changed from stock) can both boost.

Suppose it's worth mentioning...

If the OP's using a 1D PDist, it sounds like they're going for a tinfoil exploration build.
In that case, it might be worth replacing the 4A thrusters with 4D's, to save 6t of weight and a couple of mw of juice.
They'll make the ship ~30m/s slower but if you're exploring that shouldn't be a big deal.

Yes but he has cut the PD to a 1D. Stock on a DBX would be a 4E.

I said stock other than for the items he specified, i.e his powerplant, distributor and thrusters, including the engineering that he specified on them. I checked them both in coriolis.

Note - he didn't specify the grade of engine focus he has on the 1D PD so I assumed G5, although both ships will boost with lower grades than that on the 1D PD with 4A DD3s and a 2A PP as specified in the OP and no other gear changed from stock. So as I said, the answer is 'the rest of the build.'

DBX

T-6

In the above configurations, the T-6 boosts even if you drop the engine focus on the PD down to G1, whereas the DBX needs a minimum of G4, so perhaps he's only at G3 or lower for PD engineering and can't get it high enough.

You missed my point. What I meant was the DBX takes a class 4 PD by default therefore dropping to a class 1 was likely the problem. By default a Type 6 has a class 3. That alone should tell anyone that the DBX has more mass / higher power requirements.

I also made the point that the rest of the build would be necessary for context.

Yeah it didn't really come across that you meant relative to the T-6's distro, sorry about that.

The DBX has around 100 tons greater mass than a T-6 in otherwise similar configurations which is probably the first thing OP isn't factoring in. It may be smaller than the T-6 but it's chonky.

Not a problem, I could have expressed it more clearly.

I remember being quite surprised at how chunky it is. I took a class 1 repair limpet on my explorer and it usually takes a couple to repair the hull if I have a knock.

The DBx is a fat little bird made from heavy material, the T6- is made from the interlaced woven abdominal excrement from thargoid sacks, woven together by thargoids themselves.

Its similar with the alliance chieftain, this is also made from heavy metal, whereas the Anaconda is made from the interlaced woven abdominal excrement from thargoid sacks, woven together by thargoids themselves.

AKA fudge factor for FSD range, fit a better PD and problem solved, or engineer your 1D more...

Correct.

I engineered it to G4 standard and now it boosts!

I thought G3 was enough, which is why I was initially confused, but I understand better now what's happening.
