DBX vs Phantom. Which one will be better?

Since im a console cmdr and dont get to play around with beta, at all. I have to rely on you fine PC cmdrs in passing along any good and helpfull info about each upcoming expansion and everything in it.

I havent heard much about the new Krait Phantom but was wondering if it could possibly replace my current bubble hopper/exploration DBX?

What are cmdrs impression of it? Does it handle similar to its big brother Krait? Is it any good? Will it mothball my DBX, like my DBX did to my AspX? What are its flaws, or its greatness?

I really like my current Krait but i dont like having variants of the same base ship model sitting in my hanger.

Yes to all, thow away that old Krait, the new Krait is the best Krait, and it looks better from the rear as well, that alone is enough to get me interested.

The DBX still has the greater range. I'm getting 60+ly out of mine with a guardian booster. I'm getting 50+ out of my (old) Krait with a booster. I don't know about the new Krait, haven't tried it yet. Obviously, the Krait has better module capacity. I have no idea (yet) how the new Krait performs with a booster.

It has even more room than the Asp so if you find the DBX superior to that, I'm not sure the Phantom will be an upgrade to you.
I can't stand the slow scooping of the DBX.

These are confirmed values on coriolis as I understand, so you can try playing around with different loadouts.

It does around 60ly with a booster, depending on your build.

It's gonna be very, very close.

If you forget about the Gurdian FSD boosters, the difference between a superlight DBX and a similar Phantom is about 2Ly (in the DBX's favour).
But then you can add a C5 FSDB to the Phantom (+10.5Ly) whereas you can only add a C4 FSDB to the DBX (+9.3Ly).

Let's face it, the Phantom's going to be the more useful choice for 99% of exploration stuff, even if the DBX can jump 1Ly further.
It's going to cost roughly 10x what a DBX costs though.

No way giving up my DBX for it's role as

1. space taxi - 68.5 LY jump range

2. planet lander - 67.5 LY jump range w/ 1 SRV

Used to do all exploration in DBX, especially after the slot buff awhile back but now for dedicated exploration I'm in jump-conda. Otherwise DBX is king for all my bubble needs. Krait-P isn't going to change that.

Kindof on the fence about it. I dont have a guardian booster but i get just shy 61 in my DBX. But the size 4 fuel scoop is just dreadfull. The possibility of a size 5 or even a 6 fuel scoop makes me smile, speed scooping!

I dont know if i can give up my current krait, it purpose built for pirating, smuggling, and so much fun to fly. But its starting to look like ill have to break my on rule about ships.

As much as I enjoyed my DBX, it will be replaced by the Phantom - I have spent the last two sessions getting all the mats and then all the modules the required engineering. Now everything is sitting in storage just waiting for 3.3 to drop.

The main reasons why I am switching: 6A fuel scoop versus 4A fuel scoop and 5H Guardian FSD Booster against at best, a 4H GFSDB. My Phantom will have a moderate 56ly jump range but still be able to operate in the bubble (so yes it is armed), and will be a great mat collector.

I will still keep the DBX, yes it has a greater jump range but I can do less in it so it will become my new taxi.

Both of these things.

I'm in the enviable position of having an AspX that has something like a 79.5Ly jump-range (only 2Ly less than my Annie, as it turns out) so a Phantom won't beat that but it's still a tempting choice for exploration due to the number of slots.

Having said that, I have an armed/armored multirole DBX that can do ~60Ly jumps and that will still be the ship I mostly use for zipping around the bubble - without really having to waste much time scooping.
I suppose I could build a Phantom for the same job but it's gonna be 10x more expensive and it still won't be able to land in some of the places I can squeeze a DBX into.

I'll keep my DBX as the transfer cost between stations will be cheaper. For when I want to call my taxi to the location I'm currently operating in and go collect one of my other ships to change focus and do something else for a while leaving my current ship in place to come back to later.

Not sure if I will bother with the Phantom

For exploration I might switch DBX -> Beluga (the module derestrictions make it now comparable with the 'conda, but with steering). Need to try it out as the jump range won't be great, but the luxury....

For a runabout I'll probably stick to the Dbx / Krait II - Phantom's loss of a hard-point might well make it less able to defend itself in a fight.

So probably come back in a month and I'll have a fleet of phantoms ;)

The DBX has ever so slightly better range (by about 2lys) but in every other regard the Phantom is better.

The DBX has better price to performance for sure. Mine is fully kitted for exploration with a shield, SRV Bay and 24 tons of fuel and has a 70LY jump range. I also tuned the engines and power distributor a bit so it does 325m/s and 425 when boosting.
That doesn't mean the Phantom can't be as good, I just think you get a lot more for your money with the Diamondback

I'll have both, and keep the Krait MkII, but I'm greedy! I specced up the Phantom for a little over 60LY jump with guns/PD utilities and just about everything engineered. The Phantom runs nearly as cool as the DBX and handles quite well, so having the choice between similar Med & Sml ships makes sense to me. I'll keep the MkII just because I like it :)

The DBX still has the greater range. I'm getting 60+ly out of mine with a guardian booster. I'm getting 50+ out of my (old) Krait with a booster. Phantom wins with 70+ ly :)

My old Krait is already on 61 LY.
