You need to sell on the black market is all, anything they will take, it doesn't have to be smuggled.

Easiest thing to do is accept a cargo mission, take 5 tons of the cargo and abort the mission. This will make the cargo illegal. Now just use EDSM/EDDB to visit 5 black markets and you're done.

To find 5+ stations with black markets, go to https://eddb.io/station or https://inara.cz/galaxy-nearest-stations, put in where you are and select the black market option.

You just need to sell 5T of illegal goods as 1T sold in 5 seperate black markets to unlock......that's what my Epic Alt cmdr did.

All the advice above is great so I don't need to add anything except "enjoy unlocking Lei Cheung".

If you need a method for that chestnut let me know. Done it three times, got the excel spreadsheet.

O god, this one. I was nearly crying selling one item to each station... I still have that 222kLy flight for Liz to do....

I helped out a new player with this a while back, this is more or less what we did. They took a mission, abandoned it then I gave them 5 nearby systems to visit & they sold some of their cargo at each. I don't remember whether two black markets in one system counted separately but play it safe & assume they don't

I had one of my friends, also new to the game, hatch break my ship in an anarchy system (Enayex) and steal 5 tons of Food Cartridges... sold all 5 tons of 'tasty' cargo in the system and 2 adjoining ones - half an hour of fun!

Yes it does. As long as those are different stations you'll be fine. For me it was only a matter of picking the OUTPOSTS as those do not scan on the approach so no need for silent running etc...

You can also pick up illegal salvage in many of the Degraded Signal Source locations, and sell those containers at a Black Market.
