Dealing with bothersome players

As per the title, dealing with bothersome players; have you had to deal with someone yet, and how did you do it?

Just had a situation in the federation distress zone. I turned up in my Cobra, and noted two sidewinders zipping around. They were not attacking anything, and no small fighter craft around either to attack, so I did not pick a side yet - as I wanted to team up with those two, rather than just wipe them out, thought it only fair.

So I was still yellow to them, as I would have been to them, I was just flying around the capital ship.

Then one of the sidewinders, name noted, but not displayed here, decided he would have a go in his (I assume) brand new sidewinder.

Well, he tried, his flying skills were not up to much, and he couldn't aim for toffee.

I took his shields down while circle straffing him in the vertical plane. I have a gimbal pulse for delicate operations, and targeted his single pulse weapon, and took it down to 0% health, leaving him with 30% hull left.

Feeling somewhat guilty, and also aware that for him, not killing him would leave him in a state worse than killing him (killing him would give him a new ship, not killing him means he has to travel to repair etc). I decided at that point to leave him alone, after all, he attacked me first and I gave him chance to escape, so I decided to leave him to suffer.

He still tried attacking me, but he could not fire. He tried ramming, but no joy as I just lateral thrusted away. It was quite amusing.

In the end he chose the easy way out, and flew for 7km in a straight line directly into the capital ship. I guess to get himself a new sidewinder.

If you are out there - you know who you are, hope it didn't bug you, but you picked the wrong guy to mess with, and it made me grin. Have a nice flight!

Any other bothersome player solutions you have implemented?

Had a certain someone in an eagle attack me in Dahan asteroid field whilst minding own business. He got me down to 60% hull before I managed to escape to gateway and repair...ok then let's go back I thought maybe he's moved on.

Nope he was still there and sure enough tried to surprise sex me again, this time I got away with 30 odd percent but I got him down to 85% hull before having to be discrete and run.

The next thing I did was a little chancey but I repaired and refit and went back out. This time he came at me and I started to run, boosted a couple of times flipped into flight assist off and turned to face him...and gave him every missile I could fire until he popped like an over ripe melon...4500 cred bounty doesnt pay for the refit but the guys reaction was surely priceless. :)

I guess if you're in one of the battle areas then it's pretty much fair game, though I have to admit I feel really guilty each time I kill another player there, especially if they're in an eagle as I know from personal experience how expensive that can be (especially if you don't have enough credits to afford the insurance).

Ramming is the biggest form of griefing currently imo. Players in free Sidewinders are deliberately ramming into players with eagles. I personally believe that needs to be addressed, especially considering how fragile the eagle is compared to a sidewinder - it means the sidewinder will almost always survive, and the eagle will almost always be destroyed.

I've had full health, and full shields, and be engaging another ship, and a player in a sidewinder will just fly at me and ram without even bothering to fire a single shot.

Ramming another player like that should cause a bounty I think.

In my experience, in a Sidewinder 95% of the time if someone is not green and does not jump out immediately, they're going to attack you sooner or later whether you bother them or not. Which if they're getting first strike in a Cobra or Eagle spells trouble. So I suspect a lot of it is frustrated pilots just deciding to do some damage.

A few times I have been bugged and actually become aggro to both sides, and so what appeared to be green players are suddenly red and attack me, so I wouldn't necessarily trust that just because they're green means they're safe!

No, always best to keep on alert. Even some green players will try their chance.

Also had some guy trying to fly in and out of my weapon beam (as I was pointlessly attacking the capital ship). I stopped firing every time, I assume they were trying to get me to accidentally hit them so I get a bounty and they can freely attack me.

Griefers gonna grief

I do hope this isn't the shape of things to come with this game :(

Tricky that. If they had a picked a side you could say that you would disable bounties for team mates but then that would mean they could attack you with no consequences. :)

I choose not to kill them. I take down their shields, and remove their weapons. If they are really annoying, I remove their life support. Regardless, I will take their hulls down to 10% and let them live. That allows them to keep their kills, but gets them out of my hair for at least 10 minutes.

If they attack me again, then I will kill them, repeatedly if necessary. Red == Dead

I usually don't kill them. But yesterday something different happened. I just had bought a cobra MKIII and had finally found some weapons to put on it. So I decided to give it a try in a conflict area. I chose a low intensity one, thinking that it will probably be better for testing out my new fitting.

I arrive on the scene, and as it happens sometimes I can't choose a side right away, the faction menu doesn't show the options yet. I notice a player right away, but they usually have the courtesy to not attack so I'm not worried...

A second later I here shots on my ship, I'm still yellow though, I select the attacker, it's the human commander in a cobra MK3... He keeps firing at me like crazy, while I'm boosting away, pulling out my guns and aligning him in my reticle. I fire one shot of my two railguns, then a couple of pulse laser hits, he loses his shield almost at the same moment I lose mine, we keep firing and he's full speed towards me. I can't avoid him (got to get used to the slow response time of the Cobra after spending quite a few hours in an eagle !). He hit me in a suicide ramming, I see his ship spinning before me, he's at 24%, I'm at 36%, I hesitate to railgun him again, but before I can touch the trigger, he's disappeared and all the Eranin fighters are after me.

This was the shortest time I've ever spent in a low intensity conflict zone ! I've managed to escape. In a way it was fun... but... his escape was very lame...

@OP
Other player didnt come off as bothersome to me. This sounds more like bragging...

A bit. But the rules (and they might be unwritten rules) for the Fed Distress zone is that you fly in, give yourself a minute to get your bearings and then declare a side. Once you declare your side, you then treat players on your own side as friends, while the others are enemies. Which means if a player on the opposing side takes you out, don't come in here and complain, you're fair game. Similarly, if there's a player on your own team sitting there, don't be a plonker and open fire on them.

At least that's how I behave when I'm there.

Maybe for areas like that where you have to declare a side, the game can just appoint a side for you after X amount of time if you don't choose on your own accord.
