Proposal Discussion Dealing With Griefers

Now re the above comment, after the edit I'm confused - Must be my Alzheimers playing up.

I'm a bit disappointed that my post was re-edited because at the end of the day it was more for the benefit of all to just steer clear of him / her / it.

Or track him / her / it down and make their game a misery just like any other criminal

a griefer just watched him blow up another player and then me both of us were clean !!!!!

[redact]

And for the record the griefer didn't watch me blow up another player. The griefer blew us both up and we both were clean.

So basically for no reason at all other than devilishness.

And would we not name and shame criminals in our own societies for the better of others ?

Well, it's the forum rules here.

Secondly what's to stop someone naming anyone as a "griefer" without any evidence, and using potentially false information?

Thirdly, most bullies do this for infamy and the reaction. Deny that and they wither and die like a plant without water.

In game I've taken to rolling over and being killed. I retract hardpoints (if they were deployed) and turn off my shields. Nothing for them to get excited about. I don't rant or rage, just get on with life. It's pretty dull if everyone does that. Demonstrating they've gotten under your skin is the lifeblood of such people. Just deny them that.

Woops

OK on that bombshell.

1) I'd like to apologise for breaking the rules
2) Thank you to Robert for pointing out that rule and last but not least
3) Thank you to Yaffle again (second time today) and your right about your ingame technique.

The panic about griefers is comical.

I know, I cant stop laughing.

Entire drama is not about griefing problem, its the problem of people who are scared of their own shadows apparently.

And if they implement those ignore buttons, then the game where pvp is avaible will turn into no piracy, no bounty hunting, no assasins, no pvp, anty-social-all-the-way game of cowards and egomaniac-bonapartes. Yeah frontier will backstab itself then.

I could understand some extreeme griefing as problem but most of the cases its gonna end up : "u kill me! - IGNORED, put on 3th party webs for name and shame" and so on ...

Devs simply need to make sure any extreeme ways of griefing are not possible by game mechanics, for example no blocking passage on station entrances by pushing ship away from it by station and docking mechanics or like loitering example on landing pads. Simple isnt it ? And elegant.

I just really wish that people could accept that there will be risks and move on to more important topics.

This cramped beta is not even representative of gameplay.

Imagine if they put all this energy into something useful.

To sum it up unless you play in ironman solely you will be in special snowflake land.

The problem with playing only ironman is that the client is so vunerable to hacking.

Completely agree from the point of view with regard to piracy, yes some people will choose that route. This is where the obvious freight scanner comes in useful. No freight, no point.

PVP should be a voluntary act though. If you decide to blow up an innocent then you should be prepared to deal with the consequences e.g. other players / NPCs having a pop at you in game. I've no problems dealing with pirate infractions, it's just the way the game is and has been since day dot. The game itself has enough griefers built in without us humans adding to it.

As for the rest, I have to disagree.

I've had another thought about this and the ignore buttons as previously mentioned.

Obviously my earlier infringement last week I would have hit ignore. It would be great if the matchmaking system didn't pair me up with that person again until such times as I hit something like an 'Re-Acknowledge' button therefore allowing them to share the same space as me.

My reasons for hitting the ignore button were obvious, this guy / girl was obviously just out to wind people up (I was just number 2 on this persons list :D). If I got blown up with a bounty on my head fair do's I'm cannon fodder at some point unless I can high tail it back to a station.

I do think though that the act of hitting the ignore button should however go back to an FD server whereby as Thorn Black mentioned in his post ways of dealing with extreme griefing can be highlighted and dealt with accordingly.

e.g. griefers griefing themselves in a mass asteroid belt battle for bounties

How about a difficulty settings page Casual / Normal / Hard / Hardcore. And an equivalent one for P2P settings along the lines of Off / Casual (P2P against other casual players) / etc.

Lets put it this way, our moods change on a day to day basis so one day we might be quite happy doing a bit of trading with the odd bit of drama thrown in just to remind us that space is a dangerous place. And come Friday I'm pretty sure everyone wants to get rid of the week's frustrations by going hard and fast and coming out of a multinpc / multiplayer dog fight by the skin of your teeth :D

A combination of both perhaps ?

One way to filter out the "real" griefer from just normal pirates / bounty hunters would be tracking the details of kill.

Like: did the target have no cargo / bounty while being not hostile (didn't attack first nor set to a hostile faction) to the killer?
In that case there wasn't really a reason for the kill, you don't get a reward for a neutral player (I think?...) and there wasn't any loot to get (either none to begin with or it got dropped in an attempt to save the ship, or whatever) so chances are the kill was just for the sake of killing something.
Now add to that how often that victim got killed by that person in a certain time frame and you could probably get a good guess at when someone's being griefed.

Unless repeated kills over a short timeframe of let's say 6h while being of no worth doesn't count as griefing.

And regarding npc griefers: yesterday I got interdicted by a single sidewinder so I thought I could manage that with my crappy free sidewinder.
But before my weapons were even deployed did I already blow up.
He shot me twice and the first killed my shields, the second killed my ship from 100% to dead.
Must have had 2 rail guns or whatever...
