Engineers Dear FD, Fool me once shame on you...

Fool me twice shame on me. You know what it feels like when I pay an engineer up front not knowing what I'm going to get, and I get crap? I'll tell you what it feels like, it feels exactly like it feels when I pay FD up front, not knowing what I'm going to get, and I get RNGineers!!!!

FD please make it so I know what I'me going to get with the engineers. It should be a progression. You pay for level 1, you get Level 1 upgrade. You must have level 1 before you can get level 2. You pay for level 2, you get Level 2. etc, etc. You can keep the special effects random, that's fine, but the upgrades should be a known quantity, not random at all.

AND BY THE WAY...if you lose you ship, you should loose any upgrade. Doesn't make any sense that Insurance companies would/could replace customizations (RANDOM or not).

The way it is implemented now, I think it sends the wrong message given your business model.

The funny in this point, is that insurance give you new modified modules... but BRETT in an AMA, told that upgraded copy will never happen... just this point is laughing me...

You know what, this can have devastating knock-on effects for the 2nd expansion. People bought into the first one with very, very little actual information about anything beyond the initial release, only to end up with this mess now. How many people are going to buy the cat in the bag a 2nd time?

I have a feeling the forums and community is so vocal about these types of messes because lots of people have already invested their moneys.
From pre-beta lifers to recent lifers, theres a huge load of cash given upfront....and many of those feel betrayed in a sense.
They hype was real in this one...with the delay and all.
They had a 2 week beta to test all aspects of this update but failed to test the grindiest parts....I wonder why?

Betrayal is part of my feelings, yes. Though in my case it is not because I paid up front and got something I didn't like, but because they first gave me a game I loved and morphed it into Korean Grinder In Space, Now With Extra Power Creep.

Because fish.

People never had the feeling of grind in the Beta. Everyone was rolling the best mods in absurd builds, I know I did at least.
Then the real thing comes out and... well.

I think they should bring back the fish.
I know the grinders will reject this idea, but if FD brought fish back into the equation, we would all be talking about the sensational mods and builds right now.
Threads would be jammed full of stats and videos of cool action,
It would be that easy to get the "vibe" going again

Oh a thread about RNG in the Engineers!

Oh, another White Knight with nothing better to do than derail another discussion ... Goes both ways, pal.

On topic: you would have to wonder how they are going to sell Season 3, and how much they will have to charge to keep the Devs employed and the servers burning. USD$70 ?

Edit: Oh my! My poor Ignore button is getting a work out this week!

True, RNG was not a matter as fishes were easy to find. Here a point. Materials, should be changed by credits. It could resolve RNG and material GRIND !

Nah, game would be jammed with everyone running grade 5 max everything.

And exactly 1 week later you'd be back on the forum complaining, only this time about lack of goals and stuff to do in game.

Better to complain to have more stuff or goal to do then grind and RNG... my though !

Yeah so folk can spend a small portion of their billions and get max upgrades just like that.

The game needed to move *away* from credits being the key to everything. A large proproportion of players have so many credits they can just buy everything they want. Which means new content that can just bought bought immediately for cash actually isn't actually new content for such people.

Ha.
Oh well.
Probably something is going to be done about it.

YUP and NO. credits can be earned by several type of activity (trading, combat, exploration, missions...). Grind for materials give less type of activity and need more time (SRV, missions or mining).

Content was suppose to be the mods...not the grind or currency(credits, time) it takes to get to the content., hence why we used fish in beta.
Locking the content behind any time consuming scheme seems fruitless and disrespectful to the players.

I actually did make a post about the potential grind back in beta. I worked out back then that to get one of my modules I achieved in Beta, if i tried to get that same result in the live build, would have taken 3 months of work. That was also when the experimental effects had a 75% chance to be achieved. Not the 1% it has now. I think a lot of people thought that the modules they got (and the ease it happened) would translate to the live build.

Really, a large proportion have so many credits? Where is your proof for such a gross generalization? I got about 1k hours in and I am worth less that 500k and only 184k in ready CR. If indeed players have hoarded billions, they certainly did it when the game was totally different. Pity any newer and new players have to play under a new environment not conducive to accumulating billions of CR.

They could have made the upgrade truly work both ways.
You want speed? You can get it, but your shield will be weaker. And you CAN'T grind yourself out of this. One doesn't come without the other.

Only then, will it become a CHOICE for how YOU want to play the game. If I want a ship that zips by I can, but I must not get hit. Someone else wants a tank? He can, but he will be slower. That would change the game and make ships more adept to do certain jobs/missions.

What we got now is kind of a mess. Players with lots of time and will to grind the materials treasure hunt will in the end, get better ships... At almost everything. They just have to keep at it.

I know I won't, because it feels much too random. I don't want to fly endlessly trying to be lucky. As a pilot with a good reputation I should be able to ask an NPC in station for the materials I want in exchange of a service he can't do (MISSIONS). Then I would have fun getting my materials!
