Fiction Dear FD; please re-supply the online store!

Ok so almost all of the hardback books on Frontier Store (https://www.frontierstore.net/books.html) have been sold out for a long time now. They were sold out well before Christmas which isn't really all that surprising (even if it was a crying shame), but they continue to be unavailable still.

There must be some complications with the supplier as it seems funny a company does not have items on sale for Christmas when it is need of revenue?

The same goes for most of the T-shirts. For example, the Sidewinder T-shirt has been out of stock for all sizes apart from S and XXL for some time now. I would have ordered it otherwise, not to mention many books for Christmas would they have been available.

I am wondering when, if ever, the online store will have their supplies refreshed?

EDIT: Just realized many of the books that were available before as hardbacks are not even on the lists anymore, like Here and the Wheel, Tales from the Frontier and others, if I am not sorely mistaken? Are there no plans to print more of these in hardcover? This is breaking my heart... Please, please, tell me FD isn't giving up on hardcovers? I for one do not like to read if I can't have hardback.

Some info regarding this from FD side would be appreciated!

Regards

Publishers don't always do 2nd or 3rd printings and the Elite novels are only of interest to a small niche of consumers. I think that it is unlikely that Frontier's stock of the hardback/paperback copies will ever be replenished.

Same with the T-Shirts. Frontier bought these things in bulk during the early days of the game and it took them a LONG time to sell the inventory. Inventory that took up storage space. I'd really like to replace some of my now worn out t-shirts but the chances of Frontier ever producing another run is probably very slim. I think that this is why they went with partnering with Spreadshirt on the "merchandise designer". Every order is a custom job which doesn't require Frontier to keep these things boxed up and cluttering the offices.

No, no, do not say such vile things! :'(

Gods be damned, that was not the reply I was after! :D

The merchandise designer is really bad. Maybe if it had even half of the designs that were on the original t's it would be better.

Maybe I have to place an order for XXL Sidey shirt then. It will not be a pretty fit though :(

Gah... Falling out of love here [sad]

EDIT: Just perfect!!! Even though it says the Sidey t is still available in S and XXL, neither of the options actually go through trying to place an order... [knocked out] Whatta... Tops. Just tops...

The books appear to be self-published, so at least it's an in-house decision if they want to print more.

That said, I'd buy a Hutton Mug.

Its a mix of small independent publisher and self-published.

I have offered a renewed paperback stock to Frontier (as my book is a second edition), but currently I think they only want to stock the ebooks.

As has been mentioned, sales of the fiction may not warrant a second hardback run. I have been asked a couple of times though. What might prompt a second print would be a release of a new title. If the Elite Dangerous Roleplaying Game does well and there's more interest in Elite: Lave Revolution, I'd consider sorting out a second run of hardbacks.

Still plenty to be found around the internet though at great prices, I've just ordered these in Hardback

New Years resolution to read more as I have only read Reclamation so far

Note that Frontier isn't the publisher of these books. They were published by an independent publisher or by the self-publish route. Frontier required an upfront license fee for these books and doesn't gain financially from their continued sale. (Though - slightly confusingly - my upcoming ED book Premonition *will* be published by Frontier and they will profit from it!)

Paperback versions of the novels are available from Amazon (print on demand). As for hardback versions these were a limited edition run which has since been exhausted, alas. In the case of those books published by Fantastic Books they do have space for stock, but we are competing with about 100 other authors' books!

I can't speak for how the other authors are doing, but from my own experience, selling 30-40 books a month for Reclamation doesn't yet justify a £,000 second hardback print run. :( #margins etc.

I will review this for Reclamation when we get to publication with Premonition to see if we can do anything about it at that point. (Would be nice to be able to offer a hardback set.) :)

If you need any clarification, feel free to PM me!

Cheers,

Drew.
