Dear FD: Please stop giving us these Rares CGs!

There were THREE Community Goals last weeks. The first one (Snowglobes) had a ridiculously small payout. The second one (Gifts) had nice payouts (hell, I've got 50M from that one!), but it was an Outpost-to-Outpost CG.
Now we have the third one in a row - Outpost-to-Station, accompanied by a badly-designed BH CG which doesn't accept Federation bounties (making it basically impossible to complete since there is no RES points in the system).
-
Moreover, all these CGs strongly favor the "Hutton Trucker" model - where one player gets a big ship, and others load it. While totally legit, the "lone wolves" - those who fly alone - basically has no chance against it. This is normal. But this is NOT normal when done THIRD TIME IN A ROW.
-
So please, pretty please, ugly please:
NO RARES CGs AND OUTPOST CGs IN JANUARY!!!
Let us independent truckers who fly T-9s, Condas and Cutters compete too!!!

We've had like 3 very recent CGs that were trading ones with larging pads available.

2 for the station building in Kaushpoos. First step needed metals and third step synthetic materials if I remember correctly.
1 for the settlement building requiring evacuation shelters.

And surely I'm missing some other one as well.

Plus, Top 5% was completely doable without having someone else fill your hold really. Since there was no Top 5 reward or list, no harm done there.

Is it really legit? To be honest, I considered it as exploit when I saw what was going on this afternoon.

If the game only lets you have 20 t and you do some trick to get more.... I would call it exploit. So is it by the rules? Why is the restriction in the game in first place (of cousre so noone makes Money too fast from trading rares) ? People circumventing this restriction are exploiting imho. With or without CG. I would really love to hear FD's opinion on that.

So I would Support your " no more rare" CG request. Those who Play by the rules cannot compete against those who don't in those CG's.

Compete on what?

There was no "Top 5" reward and "Top 5%" was perfectly attainable without using this method.

It is not an exploit, and it is by the rules.
Actually, it is quite fun to participate in such events. But not three times in a row!

Doesn't matter if it is top 5 or top 5%. It stays competition.

And yes, it is fun, expecially if a group can work together. But then make it clear that this is allowed/legit (@FD)

At least one of those was mining CG, and it didn't accept any metals you've bought - you had to mine it.
-
Evac shelters CG is Horizons-only, so those who do not own it cannot participate.
-
I'm not complaining about "doable or not". My point is that there is too many rare goods CGs in a row.

The mining CG was palladium only and was the second in line. The first was trading and any metals.

Who's actually taking part in these CGs anymore, the people who are currently stacking 30mil worth of missions in Robigo? Is there even a sensible story to this CG? I read something about firecrackers or something... Is this what the Pilots Federation has been reduced to, party planning and catering?

I remember a time when we fought a war in Lugh, when CGs actually meant something, when CGs awoke the competition spirit in us, when people were actively cooperating in sabotaging the opposition's CG to win, when the payouts and the stakes where the highest in the galaxy. That's when I made my fortune and bought my first Python. That's when I was a blockade runner, a combatant, a smuggler, an intelligence officer...

I do not consider it an exploit, even though I am a loner myself.
Players make use of a natural mechanic that is present in the game.
I feel that's great.

Loading up smaller vessels with the cargo and unloading that to a larger ship isn't an exploit, it's smart playing and it's perfectly legit. David has even stated that being able to transfer cargo in that fashion is by design, as far as he's concerned, that's how we're supposed to give each other stuff, you know, player to player trading.

I ran some crystal balls to Hel, not a lot, but a few runs worth. I also have been running evac shelters to Dahan for almost 2 weeks now, alternating my supply points between Outposts and Stations as the supply goes up and down and the prices go up and down(nice to see the BGS working in this, as I'm hitting systems over 50ly from Dahan to get my evac shelters, better supply, lower prices, but it's been going up all week).

I didn't do the presents CG, figured I'd just stick with a single CG at a time, well, the double CG really as I'm also turning in bounties at Dahan Gateway for that CG. Top 5% for the evac shelters, 50% for the bounties, but the bounties are just something I pick up as I'm flying around, I've not done anything overt to get them other than hitting U/WSS's and getting interdicted.

I agree though, the rare goods CGs are a bit of a pain, the evac shelters one is nice, has a nice story that fits in with previous CGs and other events going on in the game and talked about in GalNet, while the holiday themed CGs, while a nice touch, really don't fit all that well with the Elite universe lore.

<snip>
I state again: this is not about the CGs themselves - they're fine (kinda). This is about abundance of Rares CGs, which is not fine (IMO).
Give us more "standard" trading CGs! And not Horizons-exclusive ones, please.

The independent truckers who fly T9's, Condas and Cutters surely have the cash to also have a second ship like anAsp, T6, Cobra or Python to participate in outpost based CGs.

I personally find outpost based CGs much more enjoyable than the big station CGs. Specially the ones who make us travel around (I hate the "get stuff from system next door" CGs). However diversity is key. I'm all aboard for more CGs of different types.

Exactly what I'm saying. I like diversity, and I would like a simple "get stuff from system next door" CG once in a while. And it's been a while...
-
Moreover, last two Rares CGs has a ridiculously long SC travel to the source. 33KLs for the gifts, and almost 700KLs for the fireworks. The Hutton Mug CG was extremely fun - because of novelty and just being plain silly. The "Deliver Mugs to research outpost" unofficial CG was also fun and it encouraged teamwork. These two are trying to copy that feeling, but instead they just plain boring.

The Sothis gold CG was also excellent, and it had large pads.

The Hutton Orbital CG was legendary. The premise was silly, but the enormous supercruise time, the absence of large pads, the general lack of sufficient landing pads, and the threat of pirates gave birth to a multitude of different cooperative gameplay activities that I had never seen in the game before it, neither after it. Hutton Orbital is, so far, the highest point by far in ED gameplay history.

To the OP: Right. I would like to see more variaton in the CGs as well. but atm my "outpost threshold" has not been
triggered. Yet. I think a few more CGs in general to gather around at any time would be fun. Maybe having running
at least a few of different kinds at any given time would be nice, so one could chose to attend one that suits ones
favor.

If i am reading the OP right, s/he wants CGs that dont promote the community working together?

The CGs are optional, if you dont like them, dont do them, there are plenty of other CMDRs that do enjoy them as they are, me included.

I'd like to see a rare goods CG that was any rare foods or any rare booze. Leave it up to us which stations to buy from. Just trading from the same station to another station is boring.
