Dear FDev, please convert all anarchy PMFs to theocracy

In the Spirit of Eastern, please do us a solid here FDev and ease our suffering. We've been the heels of the galaxy since the beginning and can't do it anymore. We demand a face turn and are ready to worship you as our new gods if you give us the chance and convert our governments to theocracy. We sacrificed a lot, like 90% of all anarchy systems being lost over the years. Yet there is no thanks, just further nerfing with no end in sight.

Since Theocracy as well as Anarchy ain't favorable to any Power, it won't affect PP either. There are more than 18.000 anarchy NPC factions left for players to massacre at their hearts content, so no loss here either. There are only 3 anarchy PMFs left that control any significant real estate and probably no more than two dozen still active. No sane person wants to adopt an abandoned anarchy PMF either.

We did not know of your evil plans for anarchies many years ago when we choose to start an anarchy PMF. We walked into the world of BGS like the lamb to the slaughter, and now we are stuck in the slaughterhouse. Please show mercy and fulfill us this one wish, since you've made it abundantly clear that an anarchy rework ain't in the cards.

Your friendly (dying) neighborhood anarchy ;)

I'm pretty sure I've been on this boat. Or maybe I watched it win a regatta. Can't remember.

Not sure if you noticed, but they are definitely not in the business of easing our suffering.

Amen.

IMO, seeing how everyone plays the coward and farms the anarchies, the best thing to do is to give them all the ground settlements, and push them down to 1% inf. Probably not what an anarchy PMF wants to hear... Bit of a crappy move on Frontier's part!

That would make ground CZ impossible. It's better to farm annoying independent non-anarchy factions, such as the one in 23 Arietis.

Indeed, I do tend to pick on non anarchy factions as the notoriety is basically meaningless and I feel sorry for the anarchies. In the end they are very useful to have around in the game.

Set up a farm:

Set up loads. More or less any system where the controlling faction doesn't own every asset will do (some assets are better for farming than others).

Anarchy factions are like having a great novel ripped in half and set on fire. Wasted potential.

Anarchies would grow if they had compelling reasons to support them. However as they are, they are the BGS punching bag.
"Anarchy faction" is a bit of an oxymoron that I have never fully reconciled in my mind. Criminal faction makes sense - a criminal organization that vies for, or has taken control of, territory. "Anarchy" doesn't just imply that major or minor factions that impose and maintain law aren't in control; it implies that nobody is in control. This doesn't gel particularly well with the concept of a faction that has control, unless the faction is anarchic politically... in which case it should dissolve as soon as an anarchic state within a system arises... otherwise, it's just another minor faction.

I understand that they're a stand-in for lack of established order and police, but they're still technically an authority within a territory that has none.

I find it all to be rather confusing and stupid.

It is, especially since inside the distinction you could have even more nuance (for example having isolated hippy communes of lawful anarchies like super neutral bubbles of influence in systems) while also having old skool Elite like anarchy that rips off your legs and plays the rest of you like a xylophone.

For me the most irritating thing is that lacking a police force, you'd think you'd have roving gangs like Mad Max:

At least then you won't have the weaklings use anarchies as scratching posts for materials......

If you really want to convert to a theocracy… actually convert and start supporting your local theocracy! Let these minor factions feel the full wrath of denying the Pilots Federation their due tribute, and wither on the vine…

… and then harvest the salt from the tears of those commanders who refuse to get their hands dirty acquiring their overpowered toys.

Thanks for that guide. Glad to see that Frontier still hasn’t managed to remove all nuance from BGS manipulation.

I think of Anarchy factions not as true anarchies, but as factions that are not recognized by the Pilots’ Federation, and thus unprotected by the PF’s bounty system, making them fair game to be preyed upon by its members. Official PF membership is thus a protection racket, making us the largest legal criminal organization in human space… though not the largest organized criminal organization in human space, because we’re not that organized. ;)

IRL political discussion is not allowed on these forums so I'll be vague but you just described all concepts and forms of government throughout history, anywhere. The definition of law is arbitrary and like many things, exists on a spectrum. One on which Anarchy and Theocracies are pretty far away from one another.

Not as far as anarchy and organized crime, yet FDev managed to somehow merge them while only giving us the short end of the stick regarding both.
In this respect, it's merely being a faithful sequel to the original Elite, whose government ladder has an obvious point of view.

There wasn't a BGS in the 1984 version, of course - and from the data displayed, the Anarchies back then were probably pretty happy about that.
