Human nature is contentment means little desire for activity, so discontentment always has a louder voice. Doesn't mean that effort shouldn't be made, like threads like this.
I am very glad to see they've reconsidered the hardline position on transfers. Especially given it was very clear from their summary that many of the comments had been read, be it from the games team or relayed through board staff, and considered on their merits. Sometimes, when you have a thousand tasks on your shoulders, it can be hard to see the wood from the trees. Regardless of personal preference, there's no denying there are issues with instant-ship transfer that aren't obvious straight off the bat, and are easily missed because the effect can be considered subversive to the game mechanics. Immersion aside, there are strong concerns to be considered in whatever way seems fit.
And that's the beauty of forums like this for developers. Yes, it can be headache, yes there are a lot of whines, but you are essentially reading up on the reports of unofficial game testers. This game is in constant development. We are testing the game in bigger numbers and in some degree, in greater detail, than game-testers (though not as methodologically - I'm not knocking the hard work of game-testing). Sometimes a 500 page thread ends up being a 500 page report where those odd people who are testers-fans-consumers are really pulling apart the issues in the way game development might not get time to do. 500 odd pages or whatever on one of the smaller game changes to 2.2 - that's a lot of input.
Yes there's sifting through it, but even when forums are negative, they can be positive to the project - if the developers are professional enough, and cagey enough, to use their community to the benefit of the game.
And that's what I like - I don't feel there's this alledged need to pander to the consumers. Decisions are made that will suit the game, or at least, that's the attempt, with users and developers working in synergy.
So yes, I think its a shame there isn't more positive comments, but the negative can be positive for the game, even if it can be a headache for the developers.
