Dear Planet Coaster

Hello Planet coaster, I have a problem with my game, I've pen $95 dollars australian to purchase this alpha edition of the game and was quite excited to play it, Until i got onto the game and the game kept crashing and the game was quite lag and wasn't an enjoyable experience playing the game when everything is really slow, I've discovered that this problem is due to my graphics card being two low to play this game. My question is will this be fixed in the future for people like myself to be able to play the game perfectly with my ''LOW'' graphics card. My current Graphics Card is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.

Sorry to hear that man. You will probably not be able to enjoy this game with the on-board graphics chip you have. The Intel HD Graphics 4000 has a GPU clock speed of 350 MHz, which is one of the slowest graphics cards still available on the market. Additionally, the Intel HD Graphics 4000 offers 16 Stream Units of stream processing, which is 496 Stream Units fewer than the average.

The minimum requirements for the game can be found here.

Windows 7 64bit or newer
Intel Core i5 -2300, AMD FX-4300 or better
8GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 560 / ATI Radeon 7850 Graphics card with 2GB of Graphics Memory or better

It is time for an upgrade, if you can stomach it.

If anything the minimum specs of the game will go probably go up as they add more content that will demand more of the PC. At the moment you have an alpha that is not simulating the background stuff like rides breaking down, staff A.I. such as janitors cleaning the park or mechanics fixing rides, plus all the economy. Frontier have said the game will be optomized but I suspect it will only be so the current specs dont increase that much for the final build. I doubt the minimum specs wil go down, especially for an intergrated graphics card as low as yours....sorry - I do sympathise.

My build of an i5 2400@3.1GHz, GTX 750 Ti 2gb and 8gb memory starts to struggle on larger parks with 2000 guests. I can run fine on hi setting with frame rates between 20 and 40 fps on the Kraken Park with an extra half dozen rides and 1800 guests. I can accept 20fps on hi - I have the option to turn down the settings. But I suspect my rig wont run the game well on the final build......I will have to upgrade to enjoy PlanetCoaster at anywhere near its best.

Hi Jordan

I'v been waiting a year for this game and finally got the thrillseaker edition yesterday, but the game isn't running smoothly at all, its lagging a lot, and the soundtrack is crashing..... :(

I have the same problem! This is gonna sound weird but when I play the game I keep lowering the Screen Resolution. It starts to work... At least until it starts to lag. What is really weird is that the track is kinda ghostly and white and these looks like sun streams keep glowing while i'm on the ride and is glitching it out like CRAZY! The lag starts to get real at this time. It has already made 2 of my rides that I custom made crash and i really want to have a normal responding game that really makes me feel like I am on the ride and not with those strange sun like streams coming down, making the track all ghostly, and lagging my game out like crazy. [cry]

Can you post your PC-specs?

Okay. It won't let me copy and paste. I am just going to type it.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60 GHz

Installed RAM 8.00 GB

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I have a windows 10 computer. If you could help me fix this problem then I couldn't be happier! [squeeeeee][heart]

Doesn't look like you have a dedicated graphics cards, just the onboard Intel graphics.

How Do I Do That? I am completely new to the game.[woah]

System specs are the components of your system, you can generally find it under 'System information', which can be found by searching in the start menu.
Alternatively you can get a full breakdown with a little bit of software called 'Speccy'.

However it does sound like both of you might be facing a similar issue here... This is why it's important to check a games requirements before purchasing.

I assume that given your processor, youre playing on a laptop? If that's the case, you will likely NEVER be able to play Planet Coaster on that machine. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

My recommendation is that you buy yourself a new PC or laptop that meets as many of the recommended specs as you can. Especially Processor and Graphics Card.

Ideally you want at least a new i5, 12GB of RAM, and a nVidia GTX 970. That will ensure you get pretty decent performance, without spending your entire life savings.

If you want advice on building a decent computer then feel free to message me and we can talk about what parts to buy and where to buy them, how to put them together etc.

A simple idea (to prevent future mistakes by random people with Intel Graphics) is that devs change the way they present required/recommended specs.

It should CLEARLY state that "Intel GPU's ARE NOT SUPPORTED" in big flashing red text
this should be forwarded to STEAM/VALVE as well....

FWIW this is not aimed at Frontier, but towards ALL game devs....

(What am I thinking....suggesting some logical solution etc.)

To be fair, it's not Frontier or any other developer's responsibility to tell people how good their cards are. Users are given a very clear missive on what is required to run a given game, and its up to them to use that information properly. No offense to OP, but it is his fault that he bought the game without checking if integrated graphics are a complete waste of time (which they are). Its very very easy to type "compare intel hd 4000 vs gtx 660" and see how your chips perform.

Surely the very fact that it states that the MINIMUM requirement is to have either an nVidia GTX 560 (2GB) or AMD Radeon 7850 (2GB) implies that Intel integrated GPU is not supported.
The minimum requirements to run this game are not exactly 'high end'. The GTX560's are 5 years old.

I hear what you are saying.
The problem is that many people don't know one series from the other.
Some put their GPU in a secondary PCI-e slot.
The difference between an integrated GPU and a dedicated one.
Some don't even know what a GPU is.

That doesn't mean that warning people with a very clear and definite message is not the way to go
I'm just making this up, but it could prevent 50% of the "Wah wah wah, why does my Intel GPU not work" threads on most (games)forums.
And let's not forget the amount of dissapointment. -50%.... (which is probably the most important reason)

Whoa Whoa Whoa, Thank you for all of the help and reply's. I did check the minimum requirements for the game. I'm not saying that the game won't launch and run at all. It still does. To put that into a better perspective I played the game again. The sun beams etc. are still there but I have realized that the sun beams are starting to kinda take place in the form of the ride. It's like the ghost form of the roller coaster track which I did say when I first got here. I hope all of you guys have a wonderful thanksgiving! [yesnod] The game still does work. It's just a little laggy which is in some cases causing the game to crash but I can still play the game.

I have another quick question. Someone later mentioned something about an "onboard graphics card". Is it possible for me to buy a graphics card and put it into my computer to try and help the performance of the game? If I could then what would be the first or top store of the graphics card that I would need?

Question 2 contradicts statement 1

Question 1 is yes of course, given that you know what an "onboard graphics card" is

You need to answer a really important question which has been asked: is your computer a laptop? The model number of your CPU tells me that it is a notebook processor, designed to go in laptops. If you have a laptop, you can't upgrade the graphics in your machine.

Also, in line with what i previously said, if you DON'T have a laptop, i wpuld highly advise that you get yourself a GTX970. Its still the best GPU you can get for the money, and should just about give you decent performance on large parks.

Who says you can't upgrade the graphics card in a laptop. It would take a lot of tampering and completely changing the shell of your laptop so that it looks like a frying pan, but it's possible [haha]
