Death and avatars

Hello.

I have a proposition (especially with incoming Odyssey) to change death rules for ED.

A destroyed ship will eject a rescue capsule with the owner pilot. This capsule will be picked up by NPC ships in 5-10 minutes. Players may pay a bit for faster rescue. Also there will be transfer-to-station time, during which those pilots may see how beautiful is the (so dangerous) universe.
If it's outside of human bubble, the rescue time will take much longer. O cause, an organization like 'fuel rats' may help in such accidents to pick those pilots quicker.

Rescue capsule may be (intentionally) destroyed by enemies. Or the pilot will choose to not wait for rescue ships. In this case a new body will be created, and (pre)recorded consciousness will be uploaded to it. New body will cost a lot and it should take more time for mind transfer. And destroying emergency capsule must be a much higher crime. But this may be an option for accidents far away from the bubble, or for BGS to push minor fractions down.

For FPS combat should be same rules. Mainly non-lethal weapon should not kill NPC citizens or players. They should lose consciousness for 5-10 minutes. But if they were killed - it's a more serious crime, with higher bounty. Of cause, those killed citizens and players will got new bodies in some time later.

Having ability to grow new bodies and upload consciousness to fresh bodies will open the ability to have multiple avatars for players (simultaneously alive). So, one avatar may fly to explore the universe, and another avatar will stay in the human bubble to play in BGS or PP. Amount of avatars may depend on player's game progress. Let's say - an Elite may have a second avatar. An Admiral or a King may have a third avatar. One can use an avatar for the second fighter (so, with NPC and avatar may use 2 fighters). Or use it as a wingman. And so on. Of cause, the main idea is to allow switching of the current avatar.

so killed players will got a new bodies? I can watch Altered Cabron for that experience.

Are you suggesting that gameplay is suspended until the player is rescued? If so I think that is a terrible idea. I find waiting for ship transfers annoying enough but I understand how it fits the game dynamic and therefore don't begrudge it. However, being iced for a few minutes? How is this a good idea?

I have to say that anything and I mean ANYTHING that feels or smells like a penalty box or timeout would detract from the game enormously. There are already too many game throttles baked into this game play. One such example of what I mean is let's say when one accidentally gets too close to a planet and gets bonked out of Frameshift. I don't mind the ship damage but you also get a 90 second to three minute penalty climbing back out of the gravity well before you can jump back into Frameshift. But at least that makes sense and forces one to be more careful as a pilot.

If I had to wait any amount of time to get back into the game, it would make me avoid that aspect of gameplay completely.

Well. In this game you need about 5 minutes to get to another station. Minimum 5 minutes. Can you say it "detract from the game enormously"?
Last BGS war I was flying to CZ 20 minutes (about 400.000 ls). But I did it for my faction. I was killed 3 times during last year - it would be 15 minutes of penalty in total.
Afterall, this game is supposed to be Dangerous. Alas, but player's death is the least dangerous thing in this game. :( With all those ship insurance and immediate respawn - fly to a station 400.000 ls away is much more dangerous, than being killed.
