death and engineering upgrades

Well, at least insurance for upgrades on the modules should be superexpensive and not be covered by standard rate. I would suggest something like 150% of the module cost for upgraded modules added on top of the whole claim. Essentially, upgraded modules would be replaced for full cost and then some.

Why?
Having to farm all the things needed for the engineered module won't make the game more fun or enjoyable in my opinion.

While I understand that from a lore point of view having to get a new modified module after a ship destruction, I don't think that this would work in the game in it's current state.

maybe he want a reason why people run away from combat and log out? [big grin]

Hmmm.. I wouldn't mind having the insurance company replacing modified modules with stock ones, because that's all that the local shipyard has to offer. It would actually present commanders with a choice: do I load up my ship with nothing but modified modules and be uber-powerfull, but risk a lot of trips if I die, or do I keep my ship closer to the standard and have less to bother with? It could be an interesting downside to having engineers tech and a way to balance the game for those players who don't own Horizons.

But I can understand the concerns that players would do anything to keep their modules, including CL. We'll see what FDEV does about it.

Insurance guy: "So you had a mishap and wish to claim on your insurance policy?"
Dude in Remlok: "Yes please, I got bounced by a pirate and couldn't fight it off"
Insurance guy: "First of all, was your vehicle modified in any way?"
Dude in Remlok: "Well I had upgraded the lasers with some stuff I found on a planet, does that count?"
Insurance guy: "Click.................The other user has disconnected, please hang up and try again"

I've corrected that last bit for you :D

actually, having no insurance on your ship, so you have to pay the full prize OR choosing standard equipment would be fun in my opinion (more tension!) - but i highly doubt something like this will be implemented.

powerplay moduls are covered, even if you are not pledged anymore.

There's enough tension already imo.

Most people automatically try to flee or combat log if they get jumped by PvPers, imagine how much that statistic would rise if they stood to lose potentially weeks worth of effort?

How about a secondary insurance screen after your ship is destroyed that presents a Black Market Scavenger who will offer sell you the material they recovered from the wreckage to enable you to remodify your equipment?

It's the wrong kind of tension, the kind that isn't fun at all. It'd make it so only super-rich people who know how to exploit the hell out of the most profitable parts of the game would ever use the equipment. At least for very long.

That, or people would only use them on cheap tiny ships.

The game already has too many ways to lose ridiculous amounts of money. ('being a trader', 'being an explorer', 'not saving enough for a rebuy')

I admire your brave attitude. In decent MMOs, your get your mithral(precious) weekend gear for a spin, when you need to. Other times, you move around in some rust bucket.
