Horizons Death to All Pirates!

Okay, I want to know why there are so many g pirates in the first place.

In HRES, 50-60 percent of NPC's are pirates. In what world are the majority of actors nefarious?

Where are the Lotka–Volterra equations (predator-prey).

How is it that so many NPC pirates are interdicting so many human players?

Got cargo? Get interdicted.

Space is BIG and the human population is relatively small. I can't believe that such a large percentage of the spacefaring population are pirates!

I say again, Death to all Pirates!

I've said this before... Interdictions should be relatively rare no matter what the mission. And even rarer if you are just flying with a cargo (no mission). The last couple of nights I've not been interdicted much at all. The game was much more pleasurable. Previous night I got interdicted 7 out of 10 missions and anytime I was carrying cargo without missions.
Bottom line is that I never carry cargo when I'm not doing missions. I also noticed that I haven't been scanned leaving the terminal in the last couple of nights. It seems on the nights that I get scanned a lot leaving the terminal (and the scans are not followed by a message from the police) I get interdicted a lot. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that pattern.

Interdictions seem to be more rare when not carrying cargo or doing missions, but do happen. I had a wing of three hop my Cobra the other night, one of which was an Anaconda. If I wasn't on the ball I'd have been toast. My Anaconda might not have survived that encounter either, they were very aggressive. I got away due to boost speed.

Earlier I was running missions and such with the Anaconda. With mission in hand, chances were far higher and scans seemed more likely. Its like a sign gets on your back "Look Pirates! I'm running missions!" I feel like a red-tushed baboon.

Even carrying 1 ton of cargo in a Conda seems to bump up your chances for interdiction.. but that is just a sense I have. Not positive on accuracy.

Which is why in 99.9999% of the Galaxy you never encounter a Pirate. But if theres a place to buy stuff for traders there will be pirates.

I understand that interdictions are more likely running missions and carrying cargo.

I'm still wondering at the high percentage of pirates in the galactic population.

Are WE the evil race?

Have we met the enemy and he is us?

I'm wondering about the bubble. Half the people you scan are wanted.

In every game world?

So that the humans get gameplay, during the game? Remember, this isn't an actual live economy. Those are mostly deadly dull, so much so that humans leave them to ... Play games.

I get what you are saying though. Opposition has really been increased for some players. This isn't affecting me though, can't say why. I seldom carry cargo if it can be avoided- perhaps that's the reason?

Perhaps its the little parasites the Outlawed AI's have sent in to influence human politics :D.

"Computers are evil and should be destroyed!!"

All the NPC convoys are travelling between planets in normal space, because supercruise is full of pirates. Only crazy CMDRs would risk trading with their FSD all lit up like a beacon.

Yep, and the convoys travel with elite fighter support, just in case some crazy CMDRs go nuts completely, thinking they are Jack Sparrow and can pirate something. [haha]

Actual pirates either quit their jobs or turned into killers because their targets magically disappear on them too often, what can you say .-.

I'm still wondering why half the ships you scan are wanted. Is ED's economy piracy based? I can see juicing the adrenaline factor a bit by having a slightly higher percentage of the galactic population as pillagers, but half?

Is the ED commerce model based on actual economics algorithms? Or how is it structured?

I suspect that a lot of the NPC "pirates" encountered have actually just accumulated substantial fines related to docking infractions and similar instances given that, apparently, in Elite even "loitering" over a docking area can be considered an offense punishable by death.

Given the, beyond, draconian sentencing for any infraction would it be any wonder that the majority of the population resort to some form of illegal activity. Even if it is simply out of frustration due to being charged one to many times for unsafe flying.

If crime was that high and omnipresent and the game sensible about it, most space traffic would have ended except for some core regions and the bubble's border would be collapsing on itself. It'd be also quite uneventful.

Also depends on what type of ship you're flying. I carry cargo regularly and take on lots of missions in my Python, but I wouldn't say interdictions were prolific by any means. Besides, I like donating MC ammo to any would be NPC pirates and getting paid for the pleasure.
