Decisions. Scary Decisions..

I'm at a crossroads.

I have 31mil credits in the bank, a decked-out Vulture (worth 17mil) and a decked-out Viper (worth 2mil).

I also have a strong urge to throw caution to the wind and take advantage of the 16% discount at Zaonce for a Python.

Buying the Python would mean selling my beloved Vulture, and leave me with a mere 3mil credits and a decked-out Viper.

It wouldn't normally be much an issue, but I love my Vulture so much, it truly is the best ship I've flown. I really don't know what I should do.

The Viper is tricked-out to be an all-or-nothing bounty hunter, and having flown a test run last night, isn't bad at it, but in no way is it anything like the Vulture (it's agility is soooo slow compared). I could get by with it, but it'd take me months before I could repurchase a Vulture.

My (Dangerous) dad reckons I should go for the Python and D-spec it for rare trading, and use the Viper for BH. The problem I face there is that a D-spec FSD will only give me 13LY range, which is paltry for rare trading (my 35LY Asp was tedious enough). It'll also cost about 5mil credits to spec it up. If I went for an A5 FSD, I'm looking at 10mil credits to spec it. Either way, I'll be looking at some BH grinding for the immediate future before I could even think about flying the Python.

So, should I go for it, grind away, and be happy I saved 3mil credits on the shipyard cost (compared with Founder's World price)?

or should I stay sensible, crack on with my BH and assassination runs with my Vulture for the time being, forgo the extra 6% discount and wait until I can buy the Python (without the Vulture trade-in), and actually make it flyable?

Decisions, decisions...

If you buy the Python now, while it's at 16%, you'll be saving yourself money on future repair costs and possible insurance costs on the ship as those will be subject to the same discount.

If you D-Spec everything on the python except the FSD drive you can use it to trade pretty effectively and buy back a vulture in a reasonable space of time.

Good things come to those who wait I've seen enough horror stories on here already from people who over extend themselves financially already.

save if your bounty hunting. If you trade.. go Python.

Think how much you could go backwards and just be left with a Viper, then decide.

What will the rebuy be on your Python?
You mention Founder's World so I assume you have an insurance discount but it's still going to be at least 2 million.

In the Python I'm sure you'd find regular trading far more profitable than rares due to the volume of cargo, but that means you'd also need 2-3 million for trading.

If I was you I d hang on a little longer - if you can make another 5 million (or more) with your Vulture before trading in then you'll have just a little more breathing room. Might even be worth selling the a Viper as well - it only cost you 14k on the trade-in (IF you want to buy it back at all) and that's peanuts once you're trading in a bigger ship.

Just make sure you have plenty of rebuys...!

As long as it will give you enough to kit out the python and have insurance, why not sell both. Then use the python to make enough money to buy another Vulture. You really don't need the Viper. 16% is a bit too good to pass up.

Don't waste a Python on rare trading. Do proper trading.

Also, 16% off?! I'm gonna sell my current Python and rebuy it at Zaonce tonight!

If you are truly left with your viper then get the Python and use the viper to get yourself back a vulture, shouldn't take long. and the viper rebuy is dead cheap if you accidentally slam into an asteroid. It is also more fun to fly in my opinion because of the added challenge.

Do it.......the Pythons ace. Just give it time to upgrade as a stock version is a bit of a pig until lipstick is applied.

Just pop some heart meds before looking at some of the module prices though.

Here here!

A few tips:
a) make sure you have enough money for insurance
b) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY FOR INSURANCE! Seriously, if you can sell the Vulture and Viper and get the Python and equip it for trade AND have enough money left over for insurance AND to trade (remember - you need money to buy goods, so take that into account as well!) go get the Python!
c) do be aware that trading is boring (compared to bounty hunting) and prepare mentally that you won't have your Vulture for a while
d) don't do foolish things with the new Python... don't "take it out for a spin" in a RES site or the likes... heck, don't play Open either!
e) don't bother with rare trading - you can make more money doing normal trading with the cargo space the Python offers

The vulture is the best tool for bounty hunting or conflict zones, bar none it is made for that task.
the reason you do it in other ships is for fun or the challenge of flying something that argues when you tell it to turn. With enough firepower to level a planet.
the python will not replace your vulture for PVE. Currently nothing will.
but the python will make you more money trading than you would dream earning by bounty hunting.
you can always buy it back later the vulture is extremely cheap once you get in the upper tiers of haulage.
but if you can't stand to sell it strip it down and downgrade what you can't sell and mothball it until you have the funds to have both.
ps rares fall off in terms of profit once you upgrade to a type 7.

If I were you, I'll sell the Viper (the Vulture is just the next step of the Viper, so why keep the little brother) and wait patiently to purchase the Phyton when you have at least 60 or 65 millions in your pocket.

You can easily go bounty hunting at RES or NAV with a D-specced Python. That thing has enough firepower and shield strength even in basic equipment that nothing should really hurt you. And you'll learn flying your new ship and really appreciate when you get enough money to upgrade it :)

(Of course, only do this if you have enough for insurance)

Check and see when the Zaonce discount expires. I think it started on the 5th for 14 days, so you still have 7 days to make a decision. How much cash per day are you making on the BH side? If you are making 1.5 - 3Mcr per hour and playing for 2 or 3 hours a night, wait a few days then sell the Viper, leave the Vulture and buy the Python for cash. Leave the shell at Zaonce, keep BH'ing and go back periodically to upgrade it until it is flight-worthy?

Gring RES until the 19th and then pull the trigger on that sweet Python. Then use it as dedicated trader for a while and you'll make all your money back easy(276 tons with a class 4 shield).

Wow, a healthy response, thanks peeps!

I've had a good old think about the situation today whilst mooching around Cornwall in my van, and I think I'll grind away at the hunting until the weekend and see how much money I have. Ideally, I'd like to keep the Vulture (it really is too good to sell) and buy the Python outright (and maybe park it up at Founder's World).

I don't want to miss out on the discount, nor on the reduced insurance/repair costs. I also don't want to fly the Viper much either (I kept it for nostalgia's sake), as it really isn't a patch on the Vulture.

So... Hunting it is then. For now.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. Much appreciated. :)

If time on the Python discount is forcing your hand then sell both the Viper and Vulture (downgrading all internals first) and buy the Python. You can always pick up a Vulture or Viper at a later date and give yourself plenty to cover insurance... I can't bear another I quit thread.
