Engineers Decoded Emission Data heartbreak

Its been taking forever to get my 50. Its worse than the Classified Scan hunt. Ive searched the web for help. Its going to be 3 more days at this rate. But whats really bad was that I had 30 of them, got the last nine this morning. Got up at 6:30 am and started scanning scanning scanning. Been scanning high intensity conflict zones in systems in civil war. There must be a better way. The bad part? Oh ya.......that. Well, I was needing to clear out some space and I got carried away and cleared 10 of my 30 Decoded Emission Data's out by accident. :( Basically threw away 4 hours of scanning I did. Oh ya, I know heartbreak, were good friends. [up]

I got mine by getting in a small fast ship and going in a high intensity conflict zone without choosing a side - it's just an endless conveyor-belt of combat ships to fly around and scan - I'm usually after Untypical Shield Scans or Unexpected Emission Data when I do that, but I get many Decoded Emissions along the way.

Ouch. Try Hi RES for variety, was throwing them away from there for a while.

You can but it will lower your chances, they come from Fighter/Military ships, which is every ship if you're in a CZ

Dont these fellas also come from cruise ships?

Nope, I don't think so

Some really helpful guys put together a sick xcel doc in case you guys haven't come across it yet....

You do realize you can turn in what you have currently - say 40 - and it will count, right? Then you only need 10 more, and those 40 aren't taking up space in your Data inventory.

I don't know where you get these, I just know I'm constantly getting too many of them. Data inventory fills up, see I have 43 of these things, and purge 20.

I get what they are trying to do, but a lot of the mechanisms need 'more' behind them then simply "do enough missions/visit enough uss' til you have what you need" or "Do enough missions until you have the rank in the navy you want"

I get it, it makes sense, and it shouldn't be easy, but it needs......'more' not exactly sure what though, maybe something that clearly is specific to helping the various factions, more targeted? Missions specifically against opposing faction instead of against random? or maybe a reason behind it, anything 'more'

Ya Daniel, I know. Im currently thinking I might take the 20 I still have over there right now. Given what I did to myself, I should probably quit thinking about it and just go do it. lol :) I mean, its not like I lost a Cutter without insurance but it sure did smart a bit just the same. I think its possible I was suffering from go fever.

Yeah, that's what it says in the game but we all know that's not the same as how it actually works. I've just been spending a lot of time in CZ and RES looking for Untypical Shield Scans so I have recent experience of what I'm getting, which is more Decoded Emission in RES than CZ. You know what I get most from CZ? Distorted Shield Cycle Recordings and Inconsistent Shield Soak Analysis, both of which are "Commonly pulled from Haulage vessels". [haha]

FD have said they'll be looking at material distribution for 2.4. Hopefully it will actually work as described after that.

Depth, I think is the broad term you're after - there's this huge galaxy full of stars and planets and stuff, yet the things you can do in it are still fairly limited and superficial.
Having to do the exact same thing when I need Decoded, as I do when I need Untypical or Unexpectd emission data, and it just being dumb luck whether I get what I'm targeting, or something else is an example of that.
Turjan Starstone, I think, described Elite as 'a mile wide, but only an inch deep', which sums it up quite well.
