Oh a self learning computer? Skynet comes to mind. So that's what Nvidia wants to implement in our cars! I know Jen-Hsun talked about AI but an AI is just a program consisting of 'if's and 'then's but if it's a self learning program, it really can redefine AI and be what the term really implies:
artificial intelligence.
Thanks!
Not entirely at least not yet, currently it isn't really learning per say, but a programming feedback loop at best, self programming, self adjusting?, it can't really abstract or extract information and use it in an entirely different situation, but it is definitely a big part of the way towards true AI.
Right now it is basically a case of it getting, say it needs to learn to recognize a picture of a dog. It gets a picture, it analyses colours, lines, and a host of other things that our brains does naturally, and initially it basically randomly goes "dog" or "not dog"
Then depending on its answer, a separate program, that is just a normal program, that knows the answers gives it a feedback, lets say it wasn't a picture of a dog, but the 'ai' said it was.
It gets a negative feedback, it stores said information that the calculations it did, didn't give right answer, basically saving result as not dog, and using those as reference points in the future.
If it was right, it is given positive feedback, telling it, yes that is a dog, so it stores the way it found that in the positive feedback, and it knows that given that configuration of colour/lines whatnot, it is a dog.
This is something our brains do entirely automatically, we do not notice it at all, so it is a big part of getting to the true AI, but for now we get really smart computers instead because they can learn significantly faster then humans, but they can't abstract or such yet, nor kan they go beyond what they are designed to do, they can't make up stuff yet. It is still a major advancement.
But it isn't skynet, or well.....it isn't what we think of as the movie skynet, I guess you could see it as a baby skynet though, that calculates its way to 'humans bad' from facts it knows, say it knows poluting is bad, lying is bad, and a host of other things human's as a whole do, as bad, weighs them against good, concludes humans are bad, wipe them out, but it isn't self aware, it is just a logical conclusion.
