Deep Space Carrier Decommission

Hi all

I last played Elite two years ago, but I'd like to check out the new ships and station building! I am in deep space where I was exploring - all my ships are aboard my decommissioned fleet carrier that I can't dock at. Despite what the wiki says, the carrier is NOT disassembled and my ships are NOT at the nearest station. I can see the carrier but I guess it's lost because I have been credited the value.

AFAICT these are my options:
1. Slowly fly back to the bubble and eventually re-buy the carrier at a fleet carrier system? What about all those ships?
2. Fly my Krait into a star and die, respawn somewhere closer to the bubble, pay insurance excess for the Krait, and then option 1?

Any other ideas?

Where are you?

If your FC got decommissioned you should have been teleported to the nearest station, along with whatever ship you were last sat in.
In that case, go to the station shipyard, click on "ship management" and try transferring one of your ships to that station.
If your ships are stuck aboard the fading ghost of your FC, you need to transfer them to a station to get them back into use.

Rather than destroying a perfectly good Krait (which, presumably has some engineering sunk into it too), see if the station you're on sells any ships.
Alternatively, use a site like INARA to check and you'll probably find a nearby FC that sells ships.
Buy a stock sidewinder, swap into that and then self-destruct it, refuse the rebuy and you should end up back in the bubble.

All your ships will be stuck out in the middle of nowhere but if you've been refunded for the cost of an FC you should have enough to transfer a few of them (if not all) to whereever you end up.

As I said, we are in deep space. Here I am in the Krait, next to my "decommissioned" carrier, at IC 1396 Sector XM-A B2-0. We are 2,278 LY away from Sothis.

As you can see, all my ships are still aboard the carrier:

I could fly back but it will take a few days I'm sure.

Ah, thanks for the Inara tip. There's a fleet carrier 40 jumps from me, and it apparently has a shipyard. Does that mean it will sell a sidewinder?

Are you sure your FC is decommissioned?

The name-tag of decommissioned FCs should have a stripey background on the system map and in the cockpit Nav HUD.
Your FC is still showing up on the system map. Does it appear on the Nav HUD?

Have you tried, y'know, landing on it?

If it was me, after trying to land on it, I think I'd head for the nearest station/FC with a shipyard.
Wait until Thursday (decommissioned FC's take 7 days to get removed IIRC) and then use the shipyard to find out where your other ships are.
If they're still in IC 1396 Sector XM-A B2-0 it's safe to assume they're still aboard the ghost of your FC, at which point you might want to open a support ticket to get it sorted out.
After that, buy sidey, fly it, explode it, reject the rebuy and then transfer your Krait (if nothing else), back to the Bubble.
After that, hopefully support will fix your ghost FC and your other ships will get teleported...somewhere so you can transfer them to you, or sell them.

It should, but even if not, if your krait is engineered, then it would be better to blow up a stock ship.
Yup, it's one of my oldest ships and is probably highly engineered. I can't remember how to actually check. Hopefully the FC does actually stock a ship - I think my own FC had a shipyard but no ships. If that's possible. It's been years :)

Carrier shipyards come without ships. You must buy ship packages if you want to buy ships, or offer ships for sale, on your carrier.

It worked! The escape pod took me back to the bubble! Bringing most of my ships here to the station will cost nothing (though it takes 7 hours) - but the ship I flew to the other carrier will cost 20m to transfer. Yikes :D

Thank-you for the advice everyone.

Thought you could buy your carrier out of decommission as long as it was still there, just deposit money into the carrier bank using the carrier management tool in the ship, ih well lesson learned, do what the rest of us do now when you get a new carrier, put enough in it to last until the galaxy burns out!
The Carrier Management button was missing. Sure, I would have put in more money if I had had more.

Yeah looked it up, you have one week to pay and then it's curtains!

When the owner of a Fleet Carrier fails to regularly pay upkeep costs and their debt exceeds 250 million credits, equivalent to 10 weeks of debt with all optional services installed,[7] the owner will have one week to resolve their finances or their Fleet Carrier will be automatically shut down and slated for decommissioning and scrapping

I knew there was something, you must have been outside that window of time!

Was going to suggest this but, honestly, if I was in the OP's position, it'd probably be easier to just decommission the FC instead of spending days/weeks jumping it back to the bubble.

IIRC, you get a 100% refund on a decommissioned FC now so your only expense would be the cost of transferring ships and the value of any Tritium fuel and cargo left aboard.

Yes I have 5.5bn so I can rebuy it. I will jump back there in the carrier and fetch my Krait, rather than pay 20m to fly it out.
It's only 5 jumps in a carrier and I like exploring :)

20 Mil for the transfer is nothing these days.

Are you also doing Exobiology, an on-foot activity? They drastically increased the payouts for first to log. Not sure if you have been gone since before then.

Also, right now, Carrier jump times slots are slow to get and 75 minutes once you do get one.

Yes I do know about exo, but what's this about time slots? Is there a queue to jump to a specific place or is it a universe-wide queue?

Because everyone is using their Fleet Carriers to move goods to build colonies there is a considerable queue/wait time (and regularly no slots) to move FC at the moment. The hamsters are doing their best, but it's not good enough.

It should settle down in the next week or so once the FOMO crowd either complete their colony or move onto other things/games.

edit : I should have pointed out just in case you didn't know. Wait/queue times only apply to Fleet Carriers not ships.
