Deep space salvage

Sorry if this is old news, did random salvage payouts massively increase recently? Am out mining in the middle of nowhere (Near barnard's loop) Used to drop into those typical deep space signal sources and pick up those survey caches, pay was always rubbish so I stopped bothering quite a while back. Just sold a single data cache for nearly 230,000cr. Is that something new in 3.0?

They did. The payouts are now much more lucrative and there's a whole new "salvage" section of the commodities market where you can compare buying rates.

Some stations have better buying power then others. Case in point I have an Agri/Industry system and salvage sold a lot better at the industrial one then at the agri one.

The only problem I have now is that most if not all the USS's are engineering mats with no cargo and the Scarab's pitiful 2 ton cargo limit STILL makes it a poor choice for planet side salvage work.

This sounds interesting. Is there a guide somewhere on the forums on where to look for these now more lucrative salvage items? This could be a fun new way to play the game.

The best I can offer you right now is higher threat USS's and expect to get jumped by Pirates the second you see valuable cargo.

Because right now most if not all the USS's are choked with Engineering mats.

Planetside one can find POI's marked by blue circles when you're at a certain altitude. I think it's 1.5-2km above surface level. They fade the closer to the surface you get. It takes a bit but if you can source the center and land, the SRV sonic radar usually goes off and gives you a direction. Just dismiss your ship so you don't get a false return off it.

Salvage itself is perhaps the ultimate RNG at this point and there is no real guarantee you'll find the valuable stuff listed in the Salvage section of the commodities market. If I had to take a stab as a guess, I'd say the usual "Degraded" USS's is the best bet (since your ship is pinging cold metal debris) and the further off the beaten trade paths you go in a system, the more likely you are to find 'forgotten' valuables due to the lack of active S&R teams that appear when you run across an active disaster site. They might operate closer to stations where traffic accidents are more likely.

This could be a fun new way to play the game.

As far as deep space salvage, I don't know about fun, very lucrative. If you out of the bubble you'll see them everywhere if you hang around in SC. At 230,000cr per tonne it makes them more valuable than Low temperature diamonds, and easier to find.

I'm out here for mining, but I'll start picking these up from now on.

IIRC it has to do with them being no longer illegal and having actual demand so you now get the real value instead of peanuts.

Thanks for the head's up. I'll be deep space exploring for a bit as I'm in the Orion Nebula. As I haven't been out of the bubble for a while I thought I'd go and see what I can find (especially since the planets have been improved). I'll check out USSs to see what I can find (though have a feeling I've brought the wrong ship for that :D - I can only carry 8 tons).

If you find a Combat Aftermath USS full of rescue ships, they're bugged currently and don't move, so you can just bump them out of the way and scoop all the cargo...

I’ve been doing a lot of salvage work in the past 8 or 9 days and have not seen a payout anything near what you describe. Wish I did!
And I have been working “Deep Space.” Great for Engineer mats but not so much for money.
