I understand the confusion and issues having grid based objects have full free 3 axis rotation. as it could cause confusion and issues with blueprints or the grid.

but why not by default have 3 axis locked at least to 90 degrees, so that it still fits into the grid, but allows for a bit more freedom and creativity.
a reference photo below to show how this system would work with a slanted wall.
sorry for the drawing, rather had done this as its a bit quicker than firing up photoshop.
