Definition of an Alt

Hello.

This may be a stupid questions but I am the king of stupid quesitons so here goes. I purchase a PC version of Elite Dangerous in 2015. I also purchased the Horizons upgrade for the PC version. I stopped playing the game in 2017 and just recently (end of Dec. 20 ) purchased a version of Elite for my PS4. I really enjoy playing Elite on the PS4. I like the controls better and I am using my TV which makes for a huge monitor.

So my quesiton is, is the version I bought for the PC my main account and the PS4 version is my alt. I ask because I am impacted by the PS4 situation whereby the game is informing me that I don't have Horizons and can't land on planets. Note. I could do that in late December through January. I know there is a long thread about this in the PS4 forum. That thread references the bug effecting alts. So can anyone answer whether my PS4 instance is an alt?

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,.

It's an arbitrary definition & up to you which copy of the game you consider to be your main account, as far as Frontier will be concerned they are separate players.

Some people use more than one copy of the game tactically, or as part of their roleplay with the various accounts interacting with one another. For example carrying an alt account with a T-9 full of Tritium on their main's Carrier as an extra store of fuel, or as a multi-crew mate to get the extra Distributor pip.

The "Alt" is the account you use less. the "main" is the account you use most often.

if you have more "Alts" you can number them Alt1 Alt2 .... in order of usage.

(or anyhow else)

so a bug affecting only "Alt-accounts" is not very probable.

For PS4 you can have multiple users on the PS4 (for different people playing the console usually). You don't need to pay extra and they get their own CMDRs. These are normally also called Alts and are the ones mainly associated with issues. (Though River is correct in general that PC normally people choose one acct as Main and ell others are Alts)

Thanks. So that conversation in the PS4 thread is a little misleading. That bug appears to be effecting players who are playing Elite on the PS4 and not whether that instance is the alt or the main. Although I guess the bug could pertain to peeople who have multiple instances of the game on different platforms.

Its an interesting conundrum. I am just trying to mfigure out what to tell Frontier in my support ticket.

Thanks,

No, not in this case. PS4 has the option to make multiple Cmdrs on a single account. The account that purchased the game on PS4 is the primary PS4 Cmdr, any Cmdrs on other PS4 log-ins/secondary accounts are the PS4 alts. This has nothing to do with your PC account.
