Like the amfu and other weightless parts that are heavily used in exploration. How about a weightless shield module. It could have a wider range of slots the normal shields don't cover like starting from tier 1-2. It could weigh nothing and only deflect physical damage from hitting things like the ground or ships(possibly useful in normal combat from ramming) and solar and other exotic exploration type damages. It would not deflect any weapons fire.(or, if it did, at a reduced amount) Not sure about explosives or mines. But it could potentially help block and absorb things like external heat damage and things normally not damaged in combat, but stuff that does in exploration. They could shields focused on those forms of damage. So, later it could be useful for black holes or other exploration like damage if more things are applied. It could even have higher tier version for things like the anaconda. Then maybe big exploration ships could be useful if we ever travel through wormholes or similar. Or just to allow them to have adequate shielding for their size if they choose to use shields and those shields have to do with surface area or something.
And if it has engineering attached all of it's engineering mats could be focused on stuff picked up from exploration, if feasible, to make it easier for explorers to kit it out.
These shields would have lower overall values but optimized to specific damage types like impact and solar heat etc.
Not sure what it needs to be based of to make it realistic. What would you have to pic from from potentially realistic theoretical shields to make this work over other shields. Or are the shields in this game not based on enough theory for it to matter.
