They will still overheat and throttle like crazy, EVERY small form factor PC does. Every one of them. So most of the potential power is wasted anyway. And they're not even that powerful to begin with.

Don't these boxes run SteamOS (Linux)? Until Frontier bring out a Linux version of Elite Dangerous I don't think it will run on it.

Note: One day you might be able to run it on a pure Linux OS (not Steam OS) using WINE although the results so far have been "garbage":
