Demonix (Wing Coaster)

With Halloween fast approaching, I thought now was about time I showcased what is undoubtedly my finest coaster. So if you're feeling brave enough, we enter the dark, fast-paced world of Demonix!

Those who escape Black Hollow tell the legend. Many believe this is something born from the pits of hell itself; Dark shadows ripping across the sky, each carrying its unfortunate victims - for their souls alone...

Demons. Endless hordes of black, unforgiving creatures now terrorise our great village. No one knows what they want, where they came from or even why they're here. All we know is that they'll stop at nothing to carry out their reign of darkness...leaving a trail of destruction in their wake...

There's a sinister crypt on the far end of town. It's believed Black Hollow was built on top of a burial site, so it must have been there for centuries. And it must be the source of the darkness that rule the skies. Many have attempted to explore this forsaken ruin. Those who do however...never return...

No one may know a thing or two about these creatures. However, those who survive their wrath whisper the same word in terror...

...Demonix.

Due to the maximum number of images I can attach, a full walkthrough of this ride will follow. It may take a couple of posts though! :)

Entering the attraction, we pass under the watchful eyes of a demonic face which appears to be stalking our every move...

The queue then proceeds to lead us under and around different parts of the ride, offering some spectacular views from different angles. The most impressive being inside the towering windmill which the trains pass through twice.

We then pass through a gutted house which begins to unravel some kind of story, while also revealing the ride's connection with 'Mysteria: The Tale of The Manor', a neighbouring dark ride. It appears two brothers haven't clocked out, possibly suggesting they're in hiding from the demons? This board also references a few things, such as "T. Huntsman" being a indicator to the Huntsman ride which Mysteria is, and "V. Price" of course referring to the late, great horror icon, Vincent Price.

There's also a very simple but unnerving message in the bottom right corner...

Passing through the windmill mentioned earlier, we now cross a bridge which takes us to the crypt. A scarecrow is positioned outside gesturing to an open grave. Could this be foreshadowing something? Our doom perhaps?

The first half of the crypt is a very dark, overgrown ruin bearing an incredibly eerie atmosphere with its ambient audio and colourful lighting.

Finally, we reach the station, revealing what's definitely the most dramatic and atmospheric station I've ever produced. On the far end of the room, between some illuminated gargoyles resembling winged demons (very appropriate for the ride's theme!) is a skeleton playing a pipe organ along to the station's audio, which booms heavily throughout. The flooring appears to have collapsed, revealing the demons residing in the cellar below, waiting for their next victims. Every so often, thunder and lightning effects crash through the building, capping off the dramatic atmosphere.

Stepping away from the ride experience for now, the station hasn't actually always appeared as it does today. Originally, the station resembled a large house which had completely collapsed internally, right down to the cellar below. While the station here was well detailed, I eventually decided it didn't fit the theme and, taking inspiration from the Vampire at Chessington, decided to adapt it into more of a gothic horror theme, which in turn has definitely improved the general atmosphere and turned out a lot more appropriate for the theme.

As you can see, a lot of detail originally found in this design is still seen today, including the floorboards and the entire basement level (with the exception of some added details). Only the building from the ground level up was completely rebuilt.

I have some offride shots of the experience that follows which I'll put up in time. :)

Last post I promise. 🤐

Upon dispatch, the station is suddenly filled with the sounds of a collapsing building and the strange growls of an unearthly creature. We pass through a tunnel filled with broken pipes spraying steam and exposed cables with sparks flying from them...all the while the roar of the demons rage around you. Emerging from a tower next to the crypt, we begin the 35m ascent. What follows is an inverted drop which sends riders hurtling head-first towards the ground and under a semi-destroyed bridge, reaching a speed of 56mph.

We immediately swoop upwards over people's heads into a dive loop, before hurtling round a 270 degree stall turn which encircles a clock tower, which chimes as we pass.
149165

149164

With immense acceleration, we reach 56mph again as the train dives straight through a house and speeds into a zero-g roll, narrowly missing the windmill.
149166

149167

The train then swoops around a pond very closely as water shoots up from it to mimic the skim effect, before immediately pulling up into a corkscrew. The train then proceeds to plough straight through the windmill.
149169

149170

Banking suddenly, we now enter an upwards helix which encircles the ride entrance, before finalising our flight with an inline twist which goes through the windmill once more. Loud crumbling sounds can be heard from inside the windmill which suggests it's becoming more and more unstable.
149173

149174

The train now slows down slightly as it passes through some trim brakes, before diving down a small drop to the left and slowing down completely, only to disappear under the queue bridge and return to the station.

In summary, as I mentioned before, Demonix is undoubtedly my best coaster in my park. Everything from it's layout to its interaction with scenery and buildings make it a very impressive and intense experience. Even all the images posted above prove that it's also a very majestic coaster to watch. A lot of effort was put into both the coaster and surrounding scenery, especially the inverted drop which took a couple of hours to smooth out properly and get just right.
