Descent sequel from the creators of the original - Overload

Came across this:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/revivalprod/overload-the-ultimate-six-degree-of-freedom-shoote

The original Descent creators Mike Kulas and Matt Toschlog are wanting to build sequel and the team has worked on Descent 1-3, Freespace, Inferno and Red Faction amongst others.

I know there's another Descent like in the works but I prefer the single player focus of this (with multi-player being added.)

For me, this looks much more like a true Descent successor compared to Descent:Underground, based on the videos. Not surprising given the original creators are working on it, but they really seem to have nailed the feeling of the originals. Descent:Underground looks more like a successor to "Forsaken", which isn't a bad thing, but it's just not Descent.

However, I wish they would quit with nonsense like "It was the first 3D game that allowed you to move, turn, and fire in any direction.". I like the Descent series but it wasn't the first game with 6DoF, and wasn't even close to being the first game that "allowed you to move, turn, and fire in any direction.". They certainly popularized 6DoF and created something original, but c'mon.

Massive fan of the old games. Been burned on kickstarter ala SC and ED which has really put me off supporting things again in the space genre. On the other hand the other games I supported like wasteland 2 and divinity original sin were great.

Still can't get the taste out of my mouth from ED and SC and this new game being a space sim also is just too close to the bone for me.

I'm out.

Guys, we are at 144k and need to reach 300k within 7 days. Overload asks for half the money that Descent Underground did, and their prototype already looks a LOT more like a true Descent successor than what Descent Underground is doing atm...

Also, Kulas and Toschlog are the guys who did the original games, and they produce results. I'm not saying D:U sucks but it is not going in the true "Descent" direction.

So please, if you have a bit of cash to spare and you like 6DOF games, consider backing them.

They released a prototype demo to backers over the weekend and it'll be available to everyone today. I'd rather not post the links until they've got them on they're kickstarter page, but having just tried it if you loved the original you really, really need to back this. Had me grinning like an idiot whilst dying repeatedly. Lazers, cannons, missiles, robots that peek round corners and everything

The Prototype Demo will be available to download and play today!

(what you'll get to play in the demo looks like the first 2 videos above, this is for fun testing of AI design etc)

I'm in. Looks good, fast paced and action filled. Nice change of pace to my normal games. Hopefully it makes it but I think it's going to be mighty close
