Descent sequel from the creators of the original - Overload

Almost a year later, and here they are on Steam Early Access, and with VR support!

Works great with the Vive too, and tons of fun to play!

Nice demo, they really nailed the formula. Unlike other well known crowdfunding projects this looks like a proper vertical slice with simple graphics focusing on the intended gameplay. Plays very well on my DualShock 4 (except it can't properly add mouse and stick inputs, so I can't use gyro for aiming). Also very well optimized, runs at 1080p60 on my 2013-spec machine.

If I were a publisher executive, I would sign off the budget for this. As a consumer I'm still not jumping into Early Access for 23 € for several reasons: First I think it's a decade too late and my nostalgia for Descent-like 6DoF games mostly wore off. Second I don't really like to see something like this years before it's finished. I got multiple Early Access games in the past and either I burned out on them or I lost interest, before they released 1.0. Or the worst: I enjoyed the prototype, but didn't like the end result at all.

So I will put this on hold and might return to it once it's finished. But that doesn't guarantee I'm going to get it. Some times it's better learn about something near the release date, not years ahead. It may feel stale for me by the time it comes out. Sorry, but Kickstarter and Early Access are tainted and create a bad taste in my mouth. Something that might become a great game doesn't deserve this financing and development model.

I wish them luck. I had a lot of fun playing the last descent(3) in multiplayer. All players got access to the same ships and weapons so that it was actually an even playing field. Something that other game companies could learn from.
