Design the interior of your ship? Space Antiquities system?

Odyssey sounds amazing, and really I hope takes the game to another level of interaction within the Elite world. I haven't played Elite in a while, but the recent announcement and trailer had me dust off the Saitek and get ready to get back in black. Like the song, also awesome.

I am assuming - at some point - wandering around the interior of the ship will be a thing. Ideally with that, the ability to reshape the interior of said ships? Like housing in other MMOs, but brought to Elite. You see, I am a collector. Thats really why I play these types of games. In Elite I really dig being able to upgrade the ships, and the Engineers was a great time (imo). Also grinding out rep to be able to buy additional ships for example.

The reason I mention the whole collecting part is, I have been playing another MMO style game and they have recently implemented a system in game called "Antiquities" and I think (further down the dev cycle of course) a system like this would play well in Elite Dangerous.

I would see it working in-game like this:

In game activities could randomly drop "A Lead". For example, kill some Pirates, scoop gear, and you happen to also get a "Lead" from that. Or mining an asteroid, thing breaks apart, and there is some "Lead" floating around in space that you can pick up. "Leads" are random and rare.

The Lead would give you coordinates to some random planet. You head there. SRV or on foot once you get there. Find the "Dig Site" - dig there and get some reward of some type. Ideally some token item that you could then display back in your ship interior. I would think - an alien mini statue - some rock with iridescent space slime on it - perhaps a piece of alien satellite? Some bauble that could be positioned and displayed in the interior of your ship.

That way I can fly around like some space Indiana Jones all collecting these rare shiny things.

Either way, looking forward to coming back to see all the changes I've missed leading up to Odyssey!

The simpler solution would be to earn a bobblehead to display on your dashboard. Still, it'd be nice, yes.

A nice idea for driving exploration gameplay (as opposed to pew pew) on foot this I think.

As far as collecting goes some is possible now, I think the codex as an embryonic version. Perhaps there could be a 'physical' reward for finding all the geological formations in a region, or every thargoid feature, or both and is possible to collect commodities as part of personal narrative, especially now you don't have to carry at all times and can leave on a fleet carrier. (For the longest time I flew with 1 ton of bootleg liquor aboard, a ton of O2, water and geological equipment as standing cargo .. now I have a couple of 'trinkets' on carrier). If you don't own one you might be able to persuade someone who does, to rent you some storage space until you, do but if your idea was treated as a special "material" you could perhaps put it on a trophy slot.

Obviously I don't think this should be a priority development but equally when people ask "what would you do, if you could walk around your ship?" this could certainly be something and I think it could appeal. It could be an archeological find but just as easily 'the head of my enemy on a stick'.
