Desire for industry.

Lately I've been replaying some older games that I've enjoyed in the past, namely EVE Online and X3, and have really been enjoying one major aspect that ED doesn't have, and seems hellbent on refusing to give. Industry. The collection and refinement of resources, research, manufacturing and of course the entire underlying market/economy/trade infrastructure to go along with it. See, in EVE Online, I have 5 accounts, 3 miners, 1 booster, 1 transport/corporate leader for compression/refinement/transport. I rarely play, but when I do, I go all out, and have a massive industry based RTS like game that I absolutely adore, the only thing really missing, for me, is ED like space craft and flying mechanics. One of the reasons I don't play it much, is one of the main reason's I play ED... I can play and enjoy the game with no threat of game disruption by griefers and the like. Now, I know this is a sore subject for some of the hardcore fanboys that believe a game in 2018 should be exactly like a game from 1984, but things evolve. We're finally getting some new and original ship designs, so the outlook is good. I really feel that ED could be so much deeper. The potential is literally almost limitless. The amount of added game play and depth that could be added from an industrial standpoint, and player owned planetary/space stations is astronomical. How do you guys feel about adding some other content like this... or other stuff?

Oh, and I know some SC fanboy will come along and say... well. SC will have it. Yeah, well that is IF/WHEN the game is finished, and ultimately will still have PvP involvement, something I don't want. Which is why I play X3 over EVE.... not to mention subscription costs. 5 accounts isn't cheap, and using in game currency cuts my profits by 90%, even more now that the cost went through the roof over the past year or so.

You're late to the party.

The desire for player owned structures and the means to manufacture such have already been on the wishlist for a year now.

As for the desire for such? Majority says yes. I'm one of them.

The question is how far is interaction allowed since EVE allows for destruction of said modules and you get minecraftesque greifers.

I really want FD to incorporate elements of Happy Wheels into ED so you have to complete a challenge in order to fly your ship... I guess I'll have to wait for SC.

I used to play Eve the same, loved the whole industry game play, it was vital for owning large chunks of the galaxy. I dont see Elite adding anything like that soon though we've been asking since alpha. The whole economy is a bit of a disconnected unbalanced mess but I'd love to see it improve. As things are now mining is just a means to turn rocks into case, it would be much more satisfying to manufacture things from the stuff you dig then sell those.

Would be nice to set up a base, gather resources, craft stuff (not just spend magic beans to get magic bonuses), ave a factory that on a small scale could make basic medicines, or some other of the commodities that you could then transport and trade in the BGS.

Adding more things to do that is not just shooty shooty would add more to the game and give it another direction.

Personally, I like the idea of credit sinks for base creation and maintenance, balanced so it can’t swamp BGS, but gives players a bit more to fiddle and tweak with. Maybe a mid to end game past time? Or temporary structures you can use as hopping off points for planetary exploration or ship repairs when you are out in the boonies.

To work well it has to be subtle and not something that can send current gameplay and mechanics out of kilter.

As someone already said, you're pretty late to the party. Elite suffers from a lack of content and has since day 1. It needs any content that adds depth whether it be industrial as you described or something else. Hope it happens eventually as this empty shell we have today is really not that much of a game.

I've mentioned this in several threads but always get back the "This isn't Eve Online" comment(s) or "Sandro doesn't want spreadsheets in his game".

Yeah, there seems to be an "over sense" of pride when it comes to a fanboys favorite game. Thing is, like EVE Online, I love many many aspects of it. At the same time, however, there's so many aspects that I don't like... And many other people dislike, which is why EVE Online has a MUCH smaller player base than they pretend to have. So my point is, if we could take the greatest things about a game like EVE Online, and the greatest things about a game like Elite Dangerous, then we could potentially have a massively awesome game that many will love. Sadly, that seems to be the route Star Citizen is taking... I don't hate SC, just the fan base, highly toxic. I believe Frontier will eventually give us what we really want out of ED, but they seem keen on keeping their team small and development cycles very long. In fact, they really haven't added any actual content since Engineers, but instead just threw in a few new features and then the rest is fixing what they implemented last time. So, unfortunately, it seems that it will take quite a while before we have anything like "space legs", or player owned capital ships and or planet/space stations... or anything on that scale. Luckily, X4 Foundations is due out some time this year.

I finally got bored with Eve after playing for 7 years and migrated to ED 6 months ago because it boasted this cut-throat universe in the game trailers. "Excellent, almost like Eve but I can actually pilot my ship!", I thought to myself. Sadly, I was disappointed after a few weeks in the game to find out it's very, very tame compared to the trailers but it's a fun game to play. Long story short... I'm back playing Eve full-time and loving it again. 6 months ago, we were living in a wormhole for a year and a half and now, my first week back, we're renting a system in Nullsec. We just needed a change of pace and made a good buck on our old home. Last I heard, the new owners are being evicted by another corp just for the lulz.

When/If Star Citizen is [ever] released it's going to be a game changer for Fdev. I've been "playing" (term used loosely) SC, on and off, for over a year now and it's starting to take shape. It's going to be more than a space simulator. You'll have to manage your character as well (health, stam and oxy). I long for the day I can knock out my prey's engines and EVA to their ship, murder the crew and loot the ship then disappear into the black. :D ♫♫♫Yo, ho, ho A pirate's life for me♫♫♫

I would absolutely love to see more content out of this game but, like you said, it's going to be a long time before players get the game they deserve.

Sounds like you might enjoy a bit of Sea of Thieves to hold you over until SC gets here. :p
